first three months free sound like a Great Deal but I never seen that deal when looking last week was it over phone? if you jumped ship every few months between isp's wont you end having to pay early termination  fees?

People will sign a 12 month deal, get the $200 credit, then once the 12 months is up just switch to the next provider who offers $200 credit

I personally don't believe in doing that, just stick with the company that provides you with excellent service rather that trying to save a buck or two

Both Vocus Companies, same network, peering, infrastructure

what you will notice is a difference in is support levels (should you need it which I doubt as Vocus have once of NZ's best networks)

That's what I'm expecting. I had no reason to leave slingshot, as I was happy with their service and never had any issues, so that's why I thought about giving Orcon a go to see if they're the same.

I don't believe in it either, I really wasn't wanting to move between providers. I asked Slingshot a few times if they could offer anything similar for existing customers, and the answer was no. Unless I was wanting to move my power or mobile services to them, which I wasn't due to other reasons.

If Orcon provide a great service over the next 12 months, and they can give me a reason to stick around, then I will. If not, then I'll jump back to Slingshot who I'm already happy with. There's no hassle, simply change the router settings and pay the bill to a different account.

It's an "exclusive" deal on broadbandcompare.co.nz, however I just phoned Orcon for the signup process as I had a couple of other queries at the time, and they were able to give me the same deal.

The answer to this is yes, you'll be charged.

IMHO I'd pick 2degrees over Orcon mainly due to support. In my experience Orcon's support has been pretty bad.

In my experience, Orcon support has been very good.

My hope is that I never have to deal with the support team in the first place.

Both Providers are IPoE DHCP with Tagged VLAN10 Tag so there wouldn't be any router change at all

Slingshot recently made the change from PPPoE to IPoE (DHCP). Only a week or two ago if memory serves correctly.

I'm still connected to Slingshot via PPPoE, and haven't heard anything from Slingshot regarding changing any router settings.

Can you try change it to DHCP? I bet it will work

I'm tempted to give it a go, but I'll try it a couple of days before my connection is moved to Orcon, as I don't want to risk losing my (very sticky) public IP address haha. I do have DynDNS set up, but I'm sure there are some things that won't play nice.

I've had the same public IP address since joining up with Slingshot three years ago.

That just goes to show the reliability of the Vocus Group network

Yet they typically have the margin to offer smaller discounts to existing customers if they ask for it in return for another 12 month period. As for saving a buck or two if you get 1 month free as an existing customer it's a 8.3% saving for the year, not a few bucks but $90+ for many households. We churn our power/gas and phone+broadband every 12 months to take full advantage of signup offers and save atleast $750 a year by doing it for a few hours of our time.

I'm tempted to give it a go, but I'll try it a couple of days before my connection is moved to Orcon..

Interesting developments:
Today was the scheduled changeover date from Slingshot to Orcon (which did occur).
Last night I attempted to change my WAN settings from PPPoE (VLAN 10) to DHCP (VLAN 10) in order to see if Slingshot would pick up the connection, long story short, it didn't.

First thing this morning (6am), I got an email stating that the Orcon connection had changed over. I didn't have enough time to change any WAN settings before leaving for work, however the speedtest confirmed that I had speeds faster than the 100/20 Slingshot plan I was moving from.

I tried setting the WAN connection to DHCP with VLAN 10 again this evening, but it doesn't establish a connection. If I go back to the Slingshot PPPoE with VLAN 10, it works fine with the faster speed too.

Now I'm a bit puzzled, since Orcon and Slingshot don't state that PPPoE should be the connection method, but it's the only way I can currently access the internet. Maybe it's a hangover from being connected to Slingshot with PPPoE, and somehow their side of things hasn't updated? I'm not sure how this works exactly.

Using PFsense VM on Proxmox if that makes any difference.
Used Orcon supplied router, and that picked up the connection, but that also picked up the Slingshot connection last night.
