Don’t be so sure of that the 111 Contact Code and Copper withdrawal code are very close to been approved by the commerce commission those codes obligate chorus to provide free installs of fibre in areas where copper will be withdrawn
Once that time period comes and goes you will be up for paying to have fibre installed
TBH I would not hesitate and jump in now and get it installed while it is free

Saving a few dollars a months still wouldn't convince me to remain on cable, especially if fibre is available. But you could probably wait to the end of your contract and change over then.
Ring up Chorus, they'll probably do an installation for free for you without involving an ISP seeing as they've been cold calling people offering installs. If you want an integrated wiring jack that might be an issue as I'm not sure which party usually pays for that.
