Jumped on the updated offer of a trial + landline; only way I could afford to keep the bloody box!

Well I've been switched over but I have no router yet. This is less than ideal. Waiting for a follow-up on my support ticket as we'll have to use mobile data until we're connected.

I have a Spark one, unsure about how I'd go about getting that to talk to Sky's services (or if that's even something you need to do these days?).

Haven't switched a fibre service from one ISP to another before.

Hi, so some Vocus services use PPPoE (as does Spark) and others DHCP (as in Orcon) so either option should work, the PPPoE they may need a genuine account otherwise anything in the user/pwd fields will do, just give that a go.

Here are the settings I was given:

Now that you’ve connected to your own router, use these settings to set it up correctly for Sky Broadband:

  • Find a quick start guide, WAN set-up or internet settings
  • If the set-up guide asks a question along the lines of “Does my internet provider require a username and password?”, answer yes
  • Once you find the appropriate section for your device, enter the below settings

  •

    • Protocol: PPPoE
    • VLan tagging: Enabled
    • VLAN ID: 10
    • Username: user@sky.co.nz
    • Password: Password

  •

    •

      • Note that anything will work in these fields

  •

    • MTU: 1492

  • Nice work! Make sure you save settings and reboot the device.

My connection is just working... got home, haven't changed anything, Speedtest is showing Sky Network Television as my ISP and I'm getting OK-ish speeds (30/30) but not fantastic.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Speedtests over wifi don't actually count for much.

Why’s that? I would have thought a speed test over wifi would be slower than connected via an Ethernet, so if I was getting decent speed over wifi then all is well??

If I stand next to my router (Fritzbox 7530 - Wifi 5) with my iphone 12 pro max I can get 654 down / 432 up so like above Wifi does not give a true indication of speed, needs to be done by ethernet so you are in a position to max the connection out

It’s quite normal if you have a decent wifi setup with a gigabit connection to get 500-600mbps down and 400mbps up, I’m on stuff fibre and get those speeds over wifi

Hi all this testing is senseless all you are doing is testing the WiFi not the network performance delivered by sky/vocus on the wan connection.

Regardless this is fibre delivered and Vocus are a credible provider, so unless there is a fault you will get 950/450 or some number very near to it.

agreed, Vocus is a good network I don't imagine sky internet would be any different.
