I haven't enquired about how much yet but I might try at some point. It would be in the 10 thousands (this is based off someone in the area that has asked for an estimate but are a bit further away) I used to be able to play games fine on a ADSL connection but recently meaning in the past few days it has become really bad.

Where are you located?

I am located just out of Waiuku on a farm

A good start is getting your internal wiring sorted. This is something I can do in you area, so if you would like to get that done, please message or email me and I can get in touch with more details.

Was the ADSL comparison with different modems plugged into the same jackpoint?

For longer lines, it could be worth sourcing a second hand working unit of your previous modem (or similar chipset model) for a few bucks to test modem chipset interoperability.

Anything else a PSTN to RGW voice over xDSL would involve? perhaps a bad re-jumpering at the exchange? Different interleaving/DLM profiles? BNG packet prioritisation policies?

Before when a different modem was used it was a normal ping of around 60 - 80ms. That modem was something that was bought maybe 5 years ago but only was used for 3 years and now seems to be not working or the it could be something at the exchange but with that other modem the speeds were limited to 0.8mbps download and 0.2mbps upload and would not go higher over the last 4 days. But ever since I changed back to the Vodafone Ultra Hub it had good speed for where I am but has had high ping when in games or talking to people over discord.

Yes some modems perform better than others, I was a draytek fan but on long lines they are TERRIBLE compared to other modems like netcomm

while NF wireless isn't that flash the DSL sync on them out performs any other routers I've seen

all this is irrelevant until that master filter is done

It's on the upstream contention is at here, so the prioritization needs to be on the WAN side of the modem.

unfortunately at 500k your seriously limited in headroom.

That's true, I wonder whether Vodafone does any prioritisation for their voice over broadband service on the Ultra Hub which could make other applications perform worse? I understand Vodafone began the switchover to voice over broadband back in 2019 so unsure if OP has only recently been switched over (how did they use landline without the Ultra Hub?).

We used to be able to plug the phone into the wall but now Vodafone has disabled that for us and we can only use the landline with the ultra hub

So was this change only in the last few days or quite a few months ago?

@nathanqh Vodafone won’t fix your line here. Your problem is simply upload congestion from having a slow connection. There’s no real point continuing until you’ve got your internal wiring fixed.

Please get in touch @coffeebaron who will get you sorted else look at going with a wireless ISP.
