jesseycy: You know, I really like Ihug plans as well, quite a fair quota for usage, and also acceptable speeds of 2Mbps (unless you upload quite a lot  and then you'll be quite disaapointed).

BUT......  I have 2 problems with it....

#1:  The long 18mth contract they bind you to.  If only they can just offer free connections (or transfers from ISPs), and bind you with a 6mth contract, rather than throw in a free modem as well and restrict you for 18months.  One and a half years is quite a long time, you never know what new plans might be coming out...

#2:  The offpeak and peak data usage.  Can anyone confirm, whether they restrict your peak time speeds, if you bust your off peak usage?  And vice versa?  Cause they claim not to on their website, but that's not some other users say...  Very mixed signals coming in.....

IHUG :-( 2mb 10+10)
I can confirm that if you reach your daytime peak, the off peak IS restricted to 64k as well. This is not what the email said from the accounts dept that notified me that I had blown my cap. It said you may continue to use the offpeak at full speed (2m).
I think this is yet another bug with the data caping program they are using. The actual link speed to my exchange is still 2mb.
I have requested it fixed asap or I will change providers (I had just signed up for the 3.5m 10+20 plan as well)

Just joined Xnet-in fact got hooked up today on the $43 plan

- Someone always answers the phone! well between 8-8 weekdays and 10-4 weekends phone has never rung more than 3 times
ps NO automated crap about pushing #1 for reception blah blah blah

-ordered it on a monday got a letter on Thursday informing me of exactly when it's going to be hooked up

-playing BF2 on it ok so far

-getting around 1000KB download speeds on this http://www.nzdsl.co.nz/index.php?module=Speedtest

NOT sure if this is normal or not!

But if do join Xnet wanna say I referred you?

Not true, I often go over my daytime cap and when the clock hits 12am I am back to full speed.
Have you tried power cycling your router?

This issue has been fixed by ihug. I got my off peak cap reset the same day I posted. Since then I can download at 2mb off peak and on peak :-). I also noted that the data usage counters at ihug where 2 times what they should be 800 meg download turned into 1.6 gig. Since then ihug have also fixed that issue. I did reset my router that was the first thing I did.  Ihug have been most helpfull in fixing these issues but I have heard nothing about what caused them or where the problem was.

sbiddle: Is there anybody in NZ who has created a broadband comparison site so users can see all the plans available from all ISP's? The consumer attempted it but that mainly focussed on dialup rates.

Hi Guys,

I have developed a website www.internetchoice.co.nz that will compare a range of leading ISP's in NZ. If you think there are a few ISP that should be listed, please let me know and I will get in contact with them.

Cheers.
