I can download at 2MB/s on my 19mbps ADSL2 line which is kinda ok at the moment but upload speed is painfully slow at 0.77mbps. Id like to upload photos to online albums etc but it could take hours so I don't bother.

Yeah id like VDSL but not at some crazy monthly $$ price.

Well, I have 1.2TB uploaded to a backup service in the US, and many thousands of photos from events hosted at http://nzsnaps.com

All on ADSL2. Sure, it would be nicer if the uploads were a lot faster...

Slow enough that I don't bother? Not. Even. Close.

Yes, so far the ISPs doing it are charging $50 on top of their existing ADSL charges (not including traffic, just $50 on top of existing charges)

I'm interested in VDSL, but not $50 on top of my current plan interested :| (Happy enough now that I can wait for UFB, since i'd still have to buy a VDSL modem and it'd have to do ipv6 and it'd be SNAP, since they're the only ISP that offers both so far and THEN buy a different router that did v6 for UFB)

Ah well! (I don't think i'm actually close enough to the exchange to qualify and I don't want to be without 'net or have to pay early termination fee's/etc to go back to ADSL2)

sbiddle: I don't believe there are any guarantees that Telecom will offer the 17a profile to paying users or will play it safe and stick with 8a/8c profiles.

Here's the official word:

The VDSL2 997E8b spectrum profile forms the default profile for all WVS customers.

The 997E17a spectrum profile will only be used for End Users on short loops (an attenuation level corresponding to about 200 m or less) and will be activated by Telecom Wholesale only where this will optimise the end user experience.

That's from the "WSPL Service Description: Wholesale VDSL2 Service" document.

I have to say I love VDSL, I have a couple of servers out in the wild and regularly upload and download data to them, even on Cable it was a nightmare.

I wouldn't go back, but then I would be considered a power user :-D

I know Snap are trying to get the profile changed on my VDSL but so far Wholsale are sticking to their guns and saying "No". The cable length to my place is about 800m best case.

One other thing the $400 install fee is ridiculous!

Odds are it will happen, you'll probably find you're probably part of the RBI cabinetisation project which is seeing another ~1200 new cabinets deployed over the next few years. The details and rollout schedules were all announced in early August.

My slingshot connection is running 24/7 uploading to backflip, I am downloading in the freeoffpeak faster than I can back the stuff up! I would be content with annex M for now. No need for VDSL and I would probably not get it with how crap my line is despite only 600m between me and the cabinet. The maps show me well within the VDSL area but I have heard of people in the area trying to get it and being told no.

Its highly unlikely.
However if the local cafe / vineyard put some pressure on, then it might be remotely possible.

Just up the road a bit, there are two small vineyards and apparently that was cause enough for Telecom to install ADSL, ADSL2+ & VDSL equipment in a new Whisper cabinet, that serves them and a couple of houses....

Insane....

Keep in mind I am rural rural.
Not rural town.

I recently got bumped from ADSL1 to ADSL2+, didn't notice the difference until I checked my modem a few weeks later and notice the sync speed was higher.

The only real benefit from VDSL or the new Fibre will be the higher upload speeds.
