Currently on ADSL they offer 45GB+phone for $75 or 100Gb for $89.
In other words, although you saved money by switching that was nothing to do with UFB, you could have made the switch and saved the same at any time.

I also have a question. It?s great to see excelent speed tests but have you noticed an improved performance on a less quantifiable basis? E.g. do you notice youtube loads faster, webpages are faster, etc etc
Yes, I was aware that we could have switched our phone from Telecom over to Worldnet at anytime (they already had all our toll call business), but we also had a second line (for our business) and Telecom originally offered that at a discounted rate, but stopped doing so, maybe about 9 months ago.
In fact just a few months back they made us have both phones put in the same account name (rather than one account in our personal name and one in our business name). They said our rental would increase by about $4 a month if we continued to have separate account names going to the one address, even though they were still happy to send separate accounts in the mail. So we had to change our residential line account name (that we'd had for 20 years) to our business name. Absolute madness and proof that Governments and City Councils do not have a monoply on crazy pointless bureaucracy.
Another consideration in remaining with Telecom was that we paid Telecom's monthly wiring maintenance, so if anything went wrong with the internal copper wiring they came and fixed it without additional charge. With ten jackpoints for ten phones in the house it was not unusual for at least one jackpoint to need replacing each year. Now of course with fibre I will be attending to any repairs myself!
Regarding your final question. I don't notice much increase in web pages loading, especially NZ ones like The Herald, Stuff or Trade Me. Foreign sites seem a little quicker, but I'm not certain about this. And when i download my overnight e-mail in the morning a couple of Mb's will have downloaded before I can reach for my coffee.
Certainly video files like YouTube are retrieved and buffer right to the end very promptly. The real benefit of UFB is most apparent when downloading large files. An overseas hosted 700Mb file takes about 90 seconds, maybe two minutes. I will post some figures during the weekend when I have time to retrieve some larger files.
