Defnitely chap, which is what I'm doing now via handbrake and Sony Vegas 11 but still a decent difference between 5 mb/s and something close to the source (30 mb/s)

OK I'll bite.. the houshold typically uses 250Gb / Mth
(with Xbox, Gaming PC, 1 x Laptop, 2 x Macbooks, 1 iPad, 1 Android S3, 3 iPhones, 1 AppleTV's, 1 iPod)

Much of the traffic is iTunes movies (download and streaming) and NetFlix Streaming.

I presume the SNAP "All You Can Eat YouTube Watch as many videos as you like, without eating in to your data allowance!" doesnt include Netflix or iTunes movie streaming ?

I guess my bandwidth consumption is likely to increase with Fibre - and we get and extra adult into the household in May.. so realistically 500Gb / Mth is just around the corner.. with Snap this looks like $155 or $160/Mth -+ $410 onetime which seems a bit steep..

I'm in a pretty similar situation to the one you find yourself in ...we have a heavy internet use household ( 4 kids) with multiple mobile devices (iPads/iPods/iPhones), PCs, laptops, Apple TVs, Gaming consoles etc. For the last 6 months or so we have been using ~250-300GB/month including a moderate amount of iTunes, Netflix & Hulu.

We were on Telecom ADSL, 500GB/month and I was a little nervous that the higher bandwidth would mean exceeding this number. I got UFB installed with Snap on Friday, and now have a full 48 hours data to look at. To my surprise the vast majority (~90%) of our data was zero rated - ~50% was off peak (1am-7am as I scheduled some transfers/backup), ~40% zero rated data (Youtube, Steam etc.) and the rest was chargeable use. So what under Telecom would have been at typical weekend, with ~20 GB of data use, was actually only 2GB of 'chargeable' data. Even if this was 50% chargeable data I would have been pretty impressed - 90% is close to incredible. Once I've got a few months data I'll probably consider dropping my Data Add On down to 250 or 100GB/month.

Performance wise I have been really happy - individual transfers from the US have been in the 15-20Mbps range, and the connection sustains multiple transfers with no issues - other users can web surf etc. and not notice any slowdown. Video streaming is rock solid - watched a couple of HD movies streaming off iTunes with no issues, youtube can stream HD whenever available with no buffering. Downloaded some Steam Updates - 3GB of data at a sustained 70mbit/sec.

As expressed by a number of others I was also a little nervous switching away from Telecom, as I have had really good performance from their ADSL connection with no slowdown in peak hours etc., but based on my experience so far, I'm really glad I made the jump.

bugged them on Twitter.. next month was "soon".

I'm considering a switch to Full Flavour Media, they picked on my tweet to Telecom and noted a joining special of modem rental and no install fee (master splitter install) so it's tempting.. No cap for $99 a month. This is VDSL.

FFM is 12 month contract

Wheelbarrow01: Telecom is working on and testing a VDSL product but no release date has yet been set. I don't believe you will have to wait too long, I can't say any more than that sorry.

Will Telecom have in their lineup VDSL2 along with Fibre come 28th March as part of the UFB services offering?

We've been supplying the ZyXEL VDSL modems to clients for months but about to make a switch to the Innbox V50u.

It's an all-in-one, compatible with ADSL/VDSL/UFB and includes 2x VoIP ports & Wifi, so a big step up from the VDSL-only ZyXEL units we've been stocking.
