Had a luddite at work move back from Australia about 6 months ago, and I was assisting him with his work.

He made the comment/question that he thought internet in NZ was a bit slow. I had to laugh and mentioned the NBN to him.

This was on a site with 2X 26mb connections (poor VDSL lines), which I understand is similar to many common NBN connections.

Looks like the local ISP in AU are getting a pretty good deal to offload their old copper/coaxial to the publicly funded NBN for 1k each line. The same ol copper/coaxial line that's probably paid for by the rate payers in the first place :v

Dairyxox: Its not too often we get one up over the Aussies, but this seems like it will reverberate into the future for a while yet.

Our fast charging network leaves their for dead, buried and forgotten......even if we do still have a few gaps to close in remote areas.

We don't have a charging network... Until last week, SA was still putting out Holden V8s!

I told everyone we had no chargers in Adelaide and nobody believed me. Musk opened 2 while he was here to promote his battery farm.

Yeah, right, now you're just getting ahead of yourself... Aussie wages are still 20 years ahead of NZ, not to mention superannuation, the need NOT to have a 20% house deposit... The fact I could buy a house with $15k deposit within 15kms of the CBD of a city of 1.5million.... I could keep going...

While the NBN is a total joke, IF you use Aussie Broadband, you'll actually get the speeds you pay for. Unfortunately there's not a higher tier that isn't ridiculously priced, as the govt and NBN think upload isn't really needed by anyone. That's the reason Telstras highest cable plan was 100/2.

...and who cares about visitors to Oz..... ;-)

I have a Telstra SIM I've kept going for 4 years.....and I throw some data packs on it when I'm heading over. They let you pay by NZ credit card, whereas Vodafone didn't (if they do now, it's new).

The 20% deposit for houses is just in Auckland, I think.

I bought a 3-bdrm house in Opotiki on a 2023sqm section for......less than $210K. Sell a house in Auckland and buy 5 elsewhere. :-)
