mercutio: maybe there should be government subsidies in copper as well as fibre, as phone and internet is kind of a requirement these days!


There are subsidies for copper: one example is the RBI program where Chorus was paid to install 1000+ cabinets in rural areas.

I've also heard plenty of speculation that Chorus will also look to fund further rural upgrades now, particularly with ASAM's. Conklin's aren't an easy fix as the cost of improving backhaul is huge $$$. Most Conklin users have a much better solution already with RBI but most are simply unwilling to pay the premium required for RBI which is ultimately their problem, not Chorus'

I see Orcon, Slingshot and Flip have all updated their pricing on their websites. ADSL and VDSL have all gone up by $4.95 and Fibre has gone up by $0.95
