I would have thought that if a provider has redundant equipment on  your property, and say you are wanting to repaint or reclad your house, you an get them in to remove it. Not sure on the laws around this, but if it is going to cause an inconvenience to you, then you should see what they can do. I can see the old cable network being a problem with this type of thing in the future, as people move to UFB fibre, as there are cables still attached to powerlines all over the place in Wellington, and it will cost a lot to remove them, and their upkeep overtime being exposed on poles won't be insignificant.

Ya I agree.

The last time I looked at the law it said that you may not touch the network on the carrier side of the customer demarcation point with out authorisation even when it is on your property.

At present Chorus (the Network owner/operator not a provider ) have a semi hands off approach for the public/end customers (which has been covered over isuses with UFB/NGA/xDSL many time on Geekzone) in that all requests for change/addition of services on/with/about the network are handled by a RSP (Retail Service Provider or Provider (for short)) - the problem comes when you want to move/remove a section of the chorus network that is on/or over your property that isn't being used by a Provider - who do you call. - In this case it is direct to Chorus through the 08004NETWORK help desk

Yep the no touch could actually be applied to the ETP itself as it forms part operators network as well but a semi blind eye is turned on that when it comes to an unauthorised person opening it up and adjusting the connections (alarm installers / electrians / home owners etc) - eg Spliter installs,

BTW Don - I did a quick check and yes in this case as the Chorus Network on your property is currently not under an RSP service then 08004NETWORK is the right place to call

UPDATE

08004NETWORK was very helpful.

Turns out that Chorus don't consider a lead in as part of their carrier network any more.

The leadin is mine to do as i choose. The only caviet they gave is not to fault their network in the removal process. They didn't seem to be clear on where their network boundary even is any more.

One down.... one to go....

That makes for interesting reading for those who are in Non Chorus UFB areas and want to use the Chorus ducting for UFB.

I think you'll find that they're still not allowed to use another company's conduit, even if it is empty.

Lot's of incorrect info in this thread from a Chorus perspective.

1) Chorus own the Lead in and line up to the Demarc on your property (either ETP or first jackpoint).  For Fibre it's up to and including the ONT.

2) You shouldn't move/remove it as you don't own it.

3) 0800 4 NETWORK (Opt 2 or 4 - Network Damage) is generally for issues outside your property.  If the damage is on your property, or affecting your own service, you should call your Retail Service Provider and log a fault.

4) For "Network Move" call 0800 4 NETWORK (0800 463 896) - Option 3 and Chorus will move/remove your service.
