I have Gigabit
Going to go for another new connection/VDSL on a rural property with Econofibre.
Will advise later how it all goes.
Thanks for being part of this thread guys, its been interesting, and Im sure helpful to doubters.
Regards,
Al.
From my experience, a fair number of providers are okay once you get connected (some are very good). For a portion of them, it's only when you need anything changed (and I'm mostly looking in Vodafone's direction here) or you have a fault/require support (this one is for the likes of My Republic) that things can go south. If you never need to contact them, that's another story.
In case nobody noticed, Flip are now doing unlimited Fiber $15/week. I used them previously for ADSL, and they were pretty good.
They have stopped doing ADSL/VDSL I believe.
Funny as Flip used to be copper only.
Re Flip well I guess that's the end of unbundled copper.

All current flip customers moved to Singshot who is also using UCLL to deliver some of its xDSL
Flip is now a cheap fibre brand

Bit of a tricky situation here. At our new house in Rea Rd., Tahawai.
To get connected we only have VDSL available, and these are Econofibre connection costs:
Joining & Connection fee $50
Joining fee includes initial broadband setup and additional installation charges may incur.
Additional Connection Fee
If the previous connection at the address has been physically disconnected at the local exchange or cabinet, or the old port does not support new type of connection, technician is required to work from your local roadside exchange/cabinet or your premise.
* $55 Exchange/Cabinet Connection: Technician will visit the exchange and/or cabinet to make connection.
* $155 Site Visit: Technician will visit customer's premise to test the service is active to the external termination point(ETP).
It looks like we may be up for $50 and $155, but I cant figure why the following would apply as the house is fully wired to ETP? The latter is the deal breaker but once you put the order in, you are committed to pay whatever Chorus charges apply.
Connection & Wiring (Standard fee $299)
Service technician will visit customer premises to install a splitter in the network termination and a new cable to the selected DSL jack point within the premises. This option is mandatory in all premises where medical or security alarm systems are already connected to the line in “Line Break-in Mode”, or where more than 5 line filters would be required. It is also mandatory if your house is newly built.
Hi, is there actually a chorus ETP on the side of the house, from past photos it showed the cables hanging out of the wall and the conduit coming out of the ground.
Chorus will have to come to site to install an ETP and connect your line to the network, thats the $299 fee, this is inescapable.
By the way your connection would appear to go to a cabinet outside 4 Tetley Rd on the other side of the main highway, this is roughly 1.8-2km away, so you are more likely to have adsl not vdsl.

@ageorge stay on topic please. If you wish to discuss your broadband options or discuss other providers then start a new thread. This thread is specifically about "Econo fibre".
