Are you talking about a difference between 100 and Max fibre? There's no evidence in the document you link to, or in the specific examples you quote from that document - to support a real world difference in Netflix, Youtube or latency between 100 and Max fibre.

YOUR specific instance may be different - but the document you link to doesn't support your argument at all.

The document supports a general advantage for faster technology which is what I was talking about. I wasn't comparing any specific option because none of them matched the OPs scenario - SamKnows didn't know the correct fibre results so they couldn't report them.

The main point I'm making is that, in general, there is a measurable difference. It's not generally true that there is no difference.

I find 100/20 perfectly fine for concurrent streaming of a couple of Netflix connections, RDP, and so on, but I have a question:

On my desktop, which I also use for work, I also run ad blocking and Ghostery, and these seem to slow webpage loading quite a lot. Would I get faster loading on 1000/500 or whatever, or is the slowdown more to do with my cpu (5-year old I5, with 8 GB RAM, SSD storage)?

I'm currently (and have been for ~5 years) on Orcon 100/20 and by upgrading to gigabit I will actually reduce the bill. It's only 2-3 dollars a month but might as well.

There is a pretty big difference between gigabit and the lower tiers for me, but its under pretty limited circumstances, most people will barely notice.

I have a few gamers in my house, and each PC and console can individually take up a pretty large chunk of a gigabit connection when updating or installing games.

Some of the game clients can use a lot of bandwidth for long periods of time, 500Mbps or more are commonly seen per device, having gigabit ensures whatever any one person is doing wont be enough to affect anyone else in any meaningful way. The fastest I've seen was over 900Mbps from a single game installing, with those sort of rates you will saturate the connection and affect other users on 200Mbps.

Its also awesome if you want remote access to your system, VPN and RDP etc are definitely better with more than a 20Mbps upload.

For the average house where large updates/installs like this are rare, and a couple of netflix streams are closer to heavy usage, there will be no real difference.

And gigabit absolutely wont make general web browsing or streaming any better, but there are definitely already valid uses for it other than speedtest bragging.
