I'm not quite sure what you mean by "noise from joins" but it sounds very much like your switch ("the thingie that passes ethernet") is only 100Mbps FE if you're seeing that speed, rather than Gigabit.

Noise from joins. I was told here that the different cable arrangement adds noise. I.e. ONT to router then ethernet to a device, as compared to ONT to router to patch panel to ports throughout the house.

Im not on gigabit and the router (HG659B) is the same I used at the past house, so I went from the telco over provisioned 100/20 to the about the 95's same telco. It made sense to me. More joins, more connections.

Hi, not sure what you are on about, unless there is something seriously wrong with your wiring what you are saying is absolute bollocks, sorry no nice way to say it.

Cyril

Their (CLIC) website seems a bit over the place. In one section it says in one paragraph that it offers fibre and dsl:

"No, all of the above services are delivered either by a copper cable or Fibre Optic."

But the paragraph below says services are delivered via radio:

"To receive our service there needs to be a Clear Line of Sight(CLOS) between our tower and your building location."

Fair enough thats what was said here when I asked. So, if I have one cable from one ONT direct to the  router that will give an identical speedtest using more cables with joins these branching into a patch panel which is effectively a multi box? I guess cable length doesnt matter, but connection points I would have imagined create some noise. But good to know

Patch panel Cyril

It has two rows of tiny connectors for each of the 12 rooms. I have 3 from the router to that, making three rooms live (one to a Airport Extreme in a living room, one to a TV box in another living room and the other to my Citrix box in another room, all via the ethernet wall plugs in each room

Hi, so as mentioned unless there is something wrong with your wiring/patchpanel, the imperfections imposed by patchpanels, patch leads etc are below the threshold of impacting performance, this is the way the gear is designed.  I can assure you a single patch lead from router to device compared to going via a patch panel and many 10s of meters of cable will result in the exact same throughput and performance.

Sweet, thank you Cyril, when i get time, ill connect something to the router in the panel and test that

Plus the house changed too, from Spark 100/20 at one location to this location (Beckenham to Aidanfield Christchurch)
