the first day i had ufb i was getting a lot of timed out web sites and when i was trying to watch live sport it was very jerky and kept on stopping which i got this morning while watching liverpool.

my vdsl connection was miles better than this rubbish.

Sounds like your laptop has a crappy network card, or a setting on it is not allowing full duplex/full speed (or something else connected to your modem was downloading something at the time?

If you are getting 100/20 from your desktop, there is nothing wrong with the UFB connection (and, it is much better than VDSL). The problem is with your laptop (have you tried a different cable?)

no,but what i was thinking of doing was trying the laptop in place of my desktop and see how that goes.

thats a good start

if your desktop still gets 100/20 then the issues are inside your own lan so not your ISP's problem

i have just disconnected my desktop and tried the laptop in its place and you are right i only got 44.17/18.96

can i ask what should i look at next please?

how do i check to see if its set to full speed etc?

my laptop is a toshiba NB550D

get a new notebook :) the max you will ever get on the laptop will be 93/~20 on your connection

not really much you can do, could try this (the TCP optimiser): http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

It's not a question of "fixing" it - it's an "old" laptop that was not built to cope with the sort of speeds that your fibre connection can provide.

It's like asking a Model T Ford to cruise at 100mph.

You can either put up with the existing speed, or buy a new laptop.

The main point is that there is nothing wrong with your internet connection.

im only on the pension so i will have to go to trademe for some thing cheap,can some body please explain to me what is the lowest computer with a network card that will handle ufb connection that i should look at please.

So we have sorted out that your internet speed is fine, but you may have still connection issues if live sport is now buffering when it wasn't before under VDSL.

Are you watching it in exactly the same way (eg via laptop on the TV and wired connection) when on VSDL and now on fibre?

There may be connection issues causing this problem - or maybe you model T cannot cope?
What happens when you watch the same sport on the PC. Same issues?

Try watching on the Laptop and then straight way stream the same game on the PC to eliminate time of day differences.

yes the only thing that has changed is i have gone from VDSL to ufb.

i have not tried to watch the sport on my desktop as i prefer my panasonic plasma.

i will try that over the weekend and see what happens,but i think it is what every one has suggested, is my laptop cant handle ufb

happyone65: i had fibre installed tuesday (5th april)not impressed at all my vdsl was better.

i have a desktop computer connected to the modem and get a speed test of 102.98 and 25.18
i also have a laptop connected to my TV also connected to the modem and get a speed of 52.18 and 19.94
i rang spark on Thursday and got told i had connection problems and it would take up to 48hours to sort out,is this right?as im 70yrs old and not very technical.

If you're getting full 100/20 speeds from your wired desktop computer, your UFB is working exactly as intended. It's also faster than 99% of the VDSL installs out there.

Is your laptop connected by a cable or by wireless? If it's connected by a cable, the laptop itself is likely very old and slow and not capable of faster speeds. If it's wireless, then that's not unexpected - getting full 100mbit speed over wireless isn't as straightforward as you might think. It may require upgrading either your router, your laptop's wireless hardware, or both. In particular it's virtually impossible to get 100mbit speeds without using 5Ghz frequencies, which not all equipment supports.

Edit: oops! Loaded this post before I went out to lunch and replied afterwards. Should have refreshed first, all of this has already been covered and then some. Definitely agree that your netbook unfortunately isn't up to handling fibre speeds.
