Here is a good conspiracy theory. Do the extortionists work for the WAF providers like Akamai or Imperva. As no bank in their right mind would pay the ransom, so really they put a whole team of firewall/security folks through hell as they move all services to platforms able to withstand any DDoS and then they go away.
It’s a weird flex IMHO trying to extort money from a bank of all organisations in this way.

Reminds me of “The Net”, 1995 movie. All the computers so called protected by one company didn’t go down, so everybody put their data through that company.

ANZ appears to be ok however.

all im getting from Kiwibank is this.

upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection termination

No, not down and has not had any issues this weekend.

Please try going to the login page by going to the ANZ website and navigating to internet banking from there to see if you get a message.

They use the same CDN last I checked along with Metservice so highly likely the CDN itself may have been targeted. I believe some infrastructure between Kiwibank and NZ Post are also shared so if an attack is large enough it can take down both.
