I read they are now saying Telecoms new 'Go Large' plan is not unlimited at all...false advertising maybe?

An industry source says that far from being unlimited, Telecom has in fact a 20GB per month cap on the Go Large plan. Furthermore, the source says, peer-to-peer traffic is rate limited at all times.

So if true, does this mean non peak hours will be treated the same as peak hours, and throttled during all hours if using p2p, or throttled after exceeding 20gb?

If so, whats the point, this plan is a complete have then?

Wonder what other ISPs will offer up.

My Orcon account is looking very sick against those offerings!

I want the upload speed. Running a small graphic design businss on 128k is hopeless.

I'm on the North Shore and I've just completed a speedtest -296kbps on my 3.5MB connection.
Maybe on the new plans I'll crack 500!
I remain disgruntled.

I give telecom full credit for being honest and upfront about their traffic management for the "unlimited" plan - compare that against ihug, orcon and even xnet who are silent on the issue when asked, yet are almost certainly dicking around with p2p traffic on connections that they provide.

Would you rather know that its second class traffic, but accept that as you have no cap so to speak of, or put up with your torrents crawling along despite them costing you the same as other traffic that is not shaped?

Its a small positive step to come from telecom.. a very very small step, and the 128k up does somewhat ruin it as to maintain a 0.5 ratio on any trackers will limit your incoming that you can use to 256k effectivly, but still, lets not knock some progress finally.

Interesting article from Australia...

While we are debating the merits of the new full speed adsl and xtra's new 'Go Large' plan, it seems one ISP in Aus is implementing the same (traffic management/fair use policy) but later in the game, so chopping the speeds of those who already have it...

SMH "From mid November, approximately, Exetel will restrict the amount of bandwidth it provides to P2P traffic to approximately 50% of what all aggregated users of P2P protocols could, theoretically, use during the period 12 noon to 12 midnight each day,"
