johnr: moxpearl other providers provide different benefits if you take a look it's not just not about the size of the GB package

Customer inertia is a low cap ISP's best friend.?
As Tom Cruise would say, Show me the money (gb).
Everything else is unimportant fluff (to me). eg,?Telecom throw in a bunch of extra services I never use.?
Unmetered Sky/Tivo/skype/flickr/netflix etc ?wouldn't even be a benefit if caps were higher.?
IP telephony would be interesting, but I can wait until June for my UFB connection to be connected.?
Speaking of UFB, I wonder when telecom will announce their plans??

moxpearl: Telecom have been running a lot of TV adverts about usage recently... eg interviews with families saying how much they use and might in the future...
Still.. overnight telecom has just made every other ISPs current plans worthless (Well except the unlimited plans a few ISPs offer)
Orcon and Vodafone will be the biggest losers ...
For the "Lower End"
Orcon Genius $80 for 30GB ... (12 month contract)
Why would you do that when you can go..
Telstraclear $75 for 40GB ... including 2 months free..(3 if you bring your own modem) ...

because the telstraclear one only last a year. after that you pay $105/month.
the orcon one is permanent.
moxpearl: Telstraclear = $75 per month = 40GB per month + 2 months free
Orcon = $80 per month = 30GB per month
Simple...

If somebody joins right now.. 12 month contract

That is you but you are not the only person connected to the internet

I'm talking about the fact that Orcon's offer is permanent i.e. you pay $75 for 30GB and that is the standard price, even when the contract ends you still pay $75 for 30GB per month.
With Telstra clear their standard price is $75 plus $30 per month for 40GB of data, but the offer is that they give you the first 12 months of data for free. In other words, after 12 months the promotion ends and your price jacks up to $105 by default.
If you are happy going through the hassle of switching ISPs every 12 months to save a few bucks then go ahead, but bear in mind that even the telstraclear offer has a $80 joining fee.
DonGould: I'm sure VF are crap again right now...
Having a local helpdesk is expensive and I'm sure finding ways to add value get harder when your competitors ship all their support over seas.
What we need to focus on now is getting people in New Zealand to work for $2 an hour to take calls from net users.
Then we can have great rates and great local service.

Do you have some interest in orcon ??
This is not just "A few bucks" ....
one can only take the offer at face value - which clearly states the 40GB is only free for 12 months. maybe they will have something at the end of that time, maybe not. If they do you will probably have to proactively switch to it though.
And who on earth cares if it goes up after 12 months ... TC will have new plans by then along with every other ISP in NZ
gzt: Providers need to engage their brains, and keep their bean counters under control.
