We are in New Plymouth (more specifically, Bell Block)

Ultra Fast Fibre are doing our fibre rollout here in New Plymouth and if you go onto their website you can put in your address on their checker. I live in New Plymouth in town here and I am not getting fibre until Feb 2016 and if the ADSL2+ nonsense that I had is anything to go by I wouldnt be surprised if it was 2018 or 19. I put in an address out there in Henwood Road and the address checker came back with July this year so well worth trying your address.

Yeah, according to the address checker, we aren't (weren't?) due to get fibre until February 2015, which is why I was so surprised when we received the card.

However, the directional drill is on our street as I type so Transfield/Central Drill obviously decided to sneak us in, being a short cul-de-sac and all.

New cabinets are added all the time and the online (public) maps can take a while to get updated.

There appears to be a cabinet directly outside the exchange on Northcote Road, Auckland's North Shore. Why put a cabinet directly outside an exchange?

maybe the exchange is kind of full, and it's getting all the close people off. or just covering a subsection.

having longer lines and shorter lines mixed on one dslam seems to introduce more issues.

There's no Exchange on Northcote Rd. Takapuna Exchange is on Hurstmere Rd.

1. why outside those buildings? - well thoses buildings on the Cnr of Northcote Rd and Akoranga Dr are actualy not an exchange but the terminal/repeater/transmiter houseings for the International Cables (fibre and coax) that come in off and head off across the Tasman and the Pacific.

2. Why put cabinets outside exchanges in general? - because the the frame work inside exchanges arent suitable, in general, to install the UFB microducting system into. A special mount or even a cabinet would have to be built inside the exchange building to manage the ducting. From a cost/distance/minimising bends etc to end user why build the distribution network further than you have too if you can build the cabinet outside the exch and just feed out the feeder fibre to the cabinet :-)

So does anyone have any further thoughts on what the best way is to get service if you are just outside?
Is there someone in Chorus that can be contacted?
My street is VDSL capable, but the service stops short of my property - so I am stuck with ADSL2 - which is soooo slow !
