Do you have a WiMax coverage map ? Something that shows marginal / fringe areas ? Much like the Freeview UHF coverage map - i can see quite clearly I'm just out of zone for reasonable Freeview UHF coverage. ( @ Puhoi)

When do you plan to have live WIMAX sites in Lower Hutt. Alicetown is the suburb.

There are already heaps of wireless options in Wellington. Look at NZ wireless or smartlinx

Smartlinx are a total joke but NZWireless do WiMAX for business and under the GASP brand for residential.

When I lived in Wadestown, in Wellington, I wanted a second phone line. There were no free ports in my street.

I had to wait 9 months. 1995-ish. This was the privatised Telecom.

Previously, in 1994, I was living in Newlands...and our end of the street was on one of those "4-port" phone sharing things. The result was that a dial-up modem would only stay connected for about 15 minutes....during which time data rates would go into a death spiral if anyone in one of the other 3 houses used the phone.

That never did get fixed by privatised Telecom while I lived there (a year). I had to shift house. They said they only provide a voice service and wouldn't lift a finger about data.

One reason I have never, ever used Telecom as an ISP.

Sadly those NZ Wireless Gasp plans have crippled international speed, 256kbit.

I don't think they have changed their plans at all in the last ~3-5+ years. They used to be competitive with the 256k jetstream but those plans suck thesedays unless you only care about national speed.

Yea that is true - we use them for the Wellington branch and they are quite precious about international or non peered traffic. We use hardly anyway - most of ours is through APE.

BTW I have heard some things that would suggest Smartlinx is dodgy - is this really the case?

So your saying that waiting 1year + on government monopoly Post Office was better? Privitizing Telecom made sense at the time, I guess it was never foreseen how important data communications would become.

Unfortunately our WiMAX roll-out plans for 2010 doesn't currently include Lower Hutt. However, I'll relay the info to our WiMAX team for them to look at.
