Forgot to say, the AM300 doesn't seem to log to an external syslog server or anything. I might try and just write tomorrow evening off internet-wise and hook up the DV120 coz I'm pretty certain that *does* do logging.

The AM300 just logs connection attempts in / outbound.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be abiding by the rule of "once its done its disconnections it won't do it again for the rest of the night" if you look at tonights Smokeping. A result of Fridays port-change? I dunno ...

OK syslogging installed on the DV120, and I'm gonna leave my WRT54GL (Tomato) out for the day. Wonder what this will come up with :D

Edit: OK this is gonna be a massive log:

You can't set the logging level?  Yes if that's the case you'll need something to filter that mess. :)

!caring

Find / replace works well ;)

I'd rather have too much than not enough at this stage, better I have something to give them as opposed to missing the fault because the logging level isn't high enough. That's my theory at least :)

If I understand it, this is not a naked service, there is a POTS service on the same line?

If that's the case, where is the POTS service coming from?  (Exchange or Cabinet?)

If there is a POTS service, can you get Chorus to put the POTS on a different pair to the DSL service so that the DSL service fault is isolated and can be pinned down?

Yes, it's a POTS service.

I'm not entirely sure what this will be achieving though, as the phone line quality is fine during that time-frame.
If it helps, as far as I've been able to tell, the DSL router loses all track of the DSL signal on the line, as opposed to it just losing authentication for example. I'm hoping to confirm this tonight when I turn on logging on the router (Though we have a big family dinner to organise as soon as I get home, so I may not get to it tonight before the disconnections begin).

If the POTS sharing the same line could be interfering with the ADSL it might not present as a POTS problem, although a DC line test can show imbalance or battery fault etc despite the phones working fine. If Slingshot can connect naked DSL on another pair then you could potentially get Slingshot to add POTS or VoIP after confirming that its stable, but before cutting the original service and transferring the phone number over to the VoIP or new line.

That way you can be sure its stable enough to use VoIP and Naked DSL if you later find the new line breaks when you put POTS on. If you need POTS for an alarm or anything, you can keep that going separately while testing the new line.

Time to find a new industry!

I'd be fine with that, if they are. As mentioned I have no need for a POTS line, naked would be ideal :)

I'm interested in the processes as much as anything.  What you're showing up here is that the processes are bonkers.  30 site visits and still not fixed.

Yeah you think it would have been more cost-effective to assign somebody to it after the 3rd or 4th site visit to manage the process from beginning to end and tick the boxes off as they go along, rather than doubling up on "checking the CPE and hosue-wiring" which has happened a good dozen and a half times...

Ya well that's what I'd do if I was running this show, but I'm not.

I do think this is a complex fault that doesn't happen often enough that I doubt it really needs a process as much as some common sense.  30 sites visits, wonder if that might be enough to send a message?

D

Yeah pretty much.. Thankfully Wayne seems to be actively pursuing it, and for the first time I've received calls back from them, before I have to call them to find out what's happening. It's nice for a change.

It also helps he seems quite technical, the TDR had no idea and several other people I've dealt with I can just picture at the other end of the phone staring blankly in to space. Heck even half the Chorus Techs have no idea what goes on in the cabinets, but alas I digress...

ChillingSilence: the TDR

TDR != Useful.
GeekZone = Useful.

I have a number of issues running currently.  I reviewed the TDR web site and just decided GZ is just a better avenue.

So they're going to give me a second line, they're going to wire it in to the wall for me directly, and give me a router of their own. Good stuff, will see how we go :)

Hi all,

Just a quick update:
I've got the router, but still haven't heard anything from Chorus. AFAIK anybody who can help me from Slingshot is AFK on holiday (Fair enough I suppose), no word on when they'll be back to follow up the installation of this second naked DSL connection.

Still haven't heard back about a cable map tracing exactly where my line runs from the Cabinet to my home, though again apparently this has been requested.

Finally, something else came to me a few days ago. Basically I was at the in-laws who are also down the road (Off the TAT/E Cabinet) and I noticed they were still using the Draytek DV120 that I gave them earlier in the year. Same model as I had *major* packet loss (~40-50%?) with.
Luckily the next day I saw a tech working in the Cabinet as I was driving home so I stopped off quickly and asked about it. This tech was under the impression that all the kit in the Te Atatu Cabinets was the same, and that it was all Chorus stuff. While he seemed a little confused when I mentioned the ikanos line cards, he said it should be the same in my one, as all the others.

So, does that mean Chorus were simply making an excuse as to why that router model wasn't working correctly, when it could be related to my ongoing issue? It's working fine for my in-laws down the road who got cabinetized approx 3 weeks before me, albeit on different Cabinet though. I've been trying to arrange with the neighbours to give them one of my Drayteks for a few days and see what they notice, but haven't been able to tee it up yet.

Anyways, just thought I'd post this update, and see if anybody had any ideas about the Draytek?

Cheers

Chill.

Hi ChillingSilence,

Just thought I would give you a quick update on whats happening our end.

As you mentioned we are running a little bit slower over the holidays and Wayne and our provisioning manager are currently on holiday, but we are still actively watching over your second line install.

It was scheduled for an install date of the 26th December, but there were some delays which we are currently querying with Chorus. At this point a Chorus tech is booked for tomorrow - hopefully there wont be any more delays :)

-Shaun
