NonprayingMantis:moxpearl:NonprayingMantis:moxpearl:NonprayingMantis:moxpearl: Telecom have been running a lot of TV adverts about usage recently... eg interviews with families saying how much they use and might in the future...
Still.. overnight telecom has just made every other ISPs current plans worthless (Well except the unlimited plans a few ISPs offer)
Orcon and Vodafone will be the biggest losers ...
For the "Lower End"
Orcon Genius $80 for 30GB ... (12 month contract)
Why would you do that when you can go..
Telstraclear $75 for 40GB ... including 2 months free..(3 if you bring your own modem) ...
because the telstraclear one only last a year. after that you pay $105/month.
the orcon one is permanent.
What are you talking about ?
If somebody joins right now.. 12 month contract
Telstraclear = $75 per month = 40GB per month + 2 months free
Orcon = $80 per month = 30GB per month
Simple...
I'm talking about the fact that Orcon's offer is permanent i.e. you pay $75 for 30GB and that is the standard price, even when the contract ends you still pay $75 for 30GB per month.
With Telstra clear their standard price is $75 plus $30 per month for 40GB of data, but the offer is that they give you the first 12 months of data for free. In other words, after 12 months the promotion ends and your price jacks up to $105 by default.
If you are happy going through the hassle of switching ISPs every 12 months to save a few bucks then go ahead, but bear in mind that even the telstraclear offer has a $80 joining fee.
Do you have some interest in orcon ??
nope, just making sure you are aware of the difference between the standard price and a promotional offer
This is not just "A few bucks" ....
$5/month is just a few bucks in my book. ($80 vs $75)
In fact when I look at the website it is the same price $75 for Orcon, $75 for Telstraclear, so the price is the same. Maybe Orcon have different prices for different regions.one can only take the offer at face value - which clearly states the 40GB is only free for 12 months. maybe they will have something at the end of that time, maybe not. If they do you will probably have to proactively switch to it though.
And who on earth cares if it goes up after 12 months ... TC will have new plans by then along with every other ISP in NZ
If you are kind of person who doesn't like to be shopping around every year, then you might care that your bill jumps up to $105 automatically.
Like I said, if you are ok with switching every 12 months then go ahead.
What on earth are you talking about ???
Its $80 on a 12 month contract... ($75 is for 18 months)
but the point you seem to be missing is that it is 40GB ... not 30GB ... which is a entire third more data for less money..
God.. pay $15 extra dollars and you can get 120GB + Tivo from Telecom...
Lets make the numbers simple
12 Month Contracts
- Telstrclear: $75 per month, 40GB (Includes 2 months free/3 if you bring your own modem)
- Telecom $95 per Month 120GB (Includes TIVO)
- Orcon: $95 per month, 40GB
Why would someone pick orcon now...
