Tuikapo: Cheers @sidefx so I checked errors are very low and ping time to somewhere like Auckland from Wellington is 13ms Sydney is 34ms so it's quite low at the moment.

It says latency to the Exchange on the modem config is 0ms - <1ms

'Low' is relative; do you have an actual figure you can post? Preferably a screenshot.

Nice attenuation figures btw! If there was ever a contender for automatic 17a profile selection it's your line!! :)

Hmm, I'm a bit confused by those numbers. What we're interested in is CRC errors per minute (CRCPM). for the CRC stats we seem to have conflicting results:

Downstream Upstream
Since Link time = 58 min 19 sec
CRC: 255 50

Which gives us a downstream CRCPM of 4.3, which isn't great!

Total time = 18 hours 58 min 39 sec
CRC: 255 0

But this total error rate is only 0.2, which is pretty good!

However, I can't see how the 2 figures relate as there is 0 upstream CRCs in the total, yet 50 in the 'Since Link Time' stats!?

The current / last 15min stats seem to indicate low error rates as well.

If that attenuation is accurate, then it's likely you won't be able to get VDSL anyway (I believe chorus will only connect VDSL if your attenuation is 10.8db or less)

However to get a definite answer you should just ring snap and get them to do a pre-qual. I don't think the figure shown in a modem is necessarily accurate and the pre-qual will tell you for sure. The state of your house wiring is also a big consideration, so don't forget to factor that into your upfront costs.

Also remember to consider upstream as well as downstream in whether VDSL is worth it - a potential ten-fold increase in upstream throughput is a huge advantage of VDSL over ADSL IMO, more so than the increased downstream. But when is your area due UFB?

Snap did a pre-qual and looks good.

It has a line attenuation of 5-6dB, VDSL2 has a maximum limit of 10.8dB, so you are well within spec. With these line speeds, you'd get approx 30-35Mbps down, and likely around 7-8Mbps upload, possibly a bit faster.

Now just need to wait 4 months for my existing contract to expire.

Hey folks,

I've had VDSL for almost a month now, bit disappointed I must admit - I'm about 400m from the cabinet and had attenuation of 5dB on ADSL2, since the switch that's up to 13dB (I realise it would jump, just not by that much). As a result, I get about 24-25 meg down.

After the first 10 days, DLM never seemed to switch my profile (from DLM-6) at all so I contacted Snap and they reset the process. Almost reached the end of the second 10 days, and last night something finally happened and I'm now on DLM-3.

Still, not stellar results - and I guess I'm going to have to get someone in to check the wiring (when I can afford it, it's an older house and the line comes in above ground into the ceiling). I have naked VDSL, and did only have one phone jack until Sky insisted one in the loung (before I switched to VDSL).

Anyway, here's my current stats:

Hi, I am 48 hours into my new Snap VDSL service. I am about 500m away form my cabinet (BSY/CR). No POTS, Fritz box is the only device connected to 1 port. House is wired Cat5e, from a central point. Cat5e from the street to the distribution box.

My current down & up sync is 18792/8433. On my ADSL I was getting 14400/752.
Line attenuation is 15dB, INP=2, Latency=8. SNRM is 12 both ways. Bitswap = on.

I want to know if I could expect the sync rate to increase?

What's your CRC per minute rate currently at? Probably best to post a screenshot of the VDSL stats page.

So is the VDSL line effectively going straight from the street to your VDSL router?

The SNR on the second (upper) download band is terrible. I think there is a problem somewhere. I'd start by disconnecting the Sky jack. Then look at redoing your internal wiring. Might be worth trying a splitter too. If none of that helps see if Snap will raise a fault with Chorus.

Assuming there are no issues with the line that prevent DLM from putting you on a better level, yes your sync rate will increase. You're probably on DLM6 now. I'd expect somewhere from 10-20% improvement if you eventually get to DLM1, maybe more.

Just remember additional jackpoints, even if not in use, may adversely affect you connection especially with VDSL. This is why you want a master filter or to completely disconnect those additional jackpoints at the source.

Oooooh yeah, you got some issues there buddy!

That spectrum graph is the worst I've ever seen!! Compare it to the one in the first post and you'll see what I mean!

Definitely remove all extra jacks and check the wiring from the demarc to your VDSL router. To confirm; you've got naked VDSL? Once you get your internal wiring in order, if there's still an issue then it's Chorus' responsibility to fix the issue and you shouldn't have to pay for it.
