mercutio: does anyone know any easy way with dslstats to monitor two vdsl connections at once?  you can't just run the program twice at once.  :(

i seem to have broken that program all together for mine..

Best option would probably be running one in sandboxie, another user or something of the sorts..

if your lucky there might be a comandline flag you could pass... i dont see one mentioned though.

ahh another user.  that's the out of the box solution that sounds easiest that i hadn't thought of :)

erk, that was much more complicated than i was expecting.

a) the hg659 doesn't have telnet support
b) dslstats doesn't have ssh support
c) dslstats has a linux version

so i managed to get it going on linux with an inetd script that calls plink which can pass the ssh password through.

but is this just because i have vodafone firmware, or are all the hg659s not supporting ssh now?  i also noticed that dslstats seems to have source available, so maybe it's worthwhile trying to see how hard it would be to patch in support for plink.

pretty sure the VF one has ssh, the Spark one (which is a slightly different model, but firmware runs on it.) does not.

its one of the cons of flashing the Spark firmware onto the VF Model.

erk i meant not supporting telnet, oops.  good to know about the spark one.  the vodafone firmware is ick, you can't even configure a secondary lan segment.  i wonder if there's a way to enable bridging somehow.  it also seems to have random lan ping spikes.  but yeah, cheap, get what you pay for i suppose.

If you read the details in the rest of the thread you'll see that the 998 bandplan allocates more to download at the expense of upload bandwidth - thats the short version anyway.

Anyone heard when Mt Roskill is getting done? Also if I am getting 50/10 now, what would I likely get once completed?

Download and run DSL Stats

Should work ok on the Hauwei and might be able to show you what the GUI cant

The HG659 doesn't support telnet so unable to get dslstats to run

Yeah, pain in the rear.....  there is a site somewhere that does give you a way to pull up more info from the unit via a command line, just cant find it...... anyone know the one I mean ? The output after running the command gives more details connection information.

login to ssh with Admin/VF-NZhg659
ATP> sh
$ xdslcmd info --linediag1

should show you lots of things

or something a bit shorter is
$ xdslcmd info --stats

if you have a linux box around you can create an inetd hook that calls "plink -l Admin -pw VF-NZhg659 192.168.1.1" .. actually there may be inetd for windows too,  to accomplish the same.  and basically bounce the connection.  dslstats seems to work ok that way.  except for some reason it won't show the upload stuff properly :(

I would suspect low to mid 60's down and maybe 9 up, but depends if you are on a 17a line, if thats the case you could expect higher upload than the current 10Mbps limit.

No one has heard when any areas are getting done, all we know is howick has been changed to the 998 band plan for what we are guessing is a trial.

It is understood that it will be rolled out to everyone by the end of november.

Very small sacrifice in upload for for 15-20Mbps down.

Its just a reallocation of the bands

for people like myself who are only on ADSL as they were beyond the range of VDSL (and are only scheduled for fibre by the end of 2019) - I'm really hoping these trials will result in extending the reach of VDSL where it was previously unobtainable/marginal.
When can we expect some sort of statement/announcement about when we can try and ask for VDSL again (or not)? I'm connected via ADSL to the Torbay Exchange.

I find it amusing most posters are complaining they only get "30 or 50 down etc" when I'm lucky to get 12 down and about 0.6 up - still I shouldn't complain - I suppose I could run a teletype on all that spare network bandwidth I have!
