networkn: Anyone heard when Mt Roskill is getting done? Also if I am getting 50/10 now, what would I likely get once completed?

I'd be interested in information about when this will be rolling out more widely in Auckland too - By the sounds of it pretty much only a smallish area around Howick has actually been done so far? I'm not sure chorus has actually given any information on time frames thus far?

i seem to remember a date of November being put up.  I'm wondering if all of these faster/closer connections should be made to not use tones below 1000 or something, to free up spectrum space on the lower frequncies.

the guy saying he's only getting 12/0.6 on adsl does bring up the issue of this disparity.  and from what i understand a lot of the connections on 17a are going to be able to hit 70 megabit cap pretty easily.  (as even with 8b a lot of connections are shifting to 50 megabit+)

i suspect they don't want to rush deployment to deal with any issues that do come up easier.  the 9db snr margin is a nice change, although it looks like 17a is still necessary to get good upload speeds :(

Why the upload went down???

Very small sacrifice in upload for for 15-20Mbps down.

Its just a reallocation of the bands

Atm, my huawei states my upload is 10mbps but max upload is 14mbps.

Don't think all of New Zealand have had his role out as our area not change at all. My guess they only doing large city rather than rural towns. Be nice to see more upload speed but doesn't look like we get it  any time soon.

chorus artificially limit the upload speed to 10Mbps.

If you are on an 8b line your max upload looks like it will stay less than 10Mbps, but your upload will increase some.
if you are on a 17a line your max upload looks like it will go up to a max of 30Mbps
both lines look like the max speed will stay the same at 70Mbps

Currently my line is showing the max upload is 40Mbps, but its only connected at 10Mbps due to chorus's limits.

I would suggest they wont look at extending the range until those who currently have VDSL have had a change to test the new 998 band plan and iron out any issues with it. Then they may do some testing on longer lines and see how much further they can go.

its just a process of hurry up and wait at the moment.

Did you read any of the thread?

it looks like only howick has it at the moment and the rest of NZ should be done by the end of november.

Funny you say about that then why did SNAP (2degrees)  announce that they were having network upgrades related to 998 rollout and it was pretty much whole country on those plan outages and was done about month ago roughly. Only places they left of list were all small towns.

They might be upgrading their infrastructure in preparation of the roll out

They may be limiting upload profiles on all vdsl connections to maximum of 10 megabit or something. (although not sure why)

In small towns Snap don't have handovers probably and so they rely on Chorus backhaul.

Sorry I haven't read all 9 pages, but under 988, the download limit of VDSL will still be 70Mbit?

currently, yes.  upload limit is being raised but not download.  also that 70 megabit is pre-overhead 70 megabit - so you shouldn't expect 70 megabit on a speedtest.

998 is 70/30 max currently, i dont see chorus changing that tbh.

on good 17a lines, overall their noise is far lower than 997 which logically should cause less crosstalk.

I'll be pretty happy if I get a speed bump in both my upload and download since I am on 17a.
