Not sure if this is the right forum.... seems closest.

Have 'download helper' installed in Firefox. (But haven't used it yet). If something On Demand is streamed can it be saved and put onto a Flash drive to watch on the TV ?

Just wonder if anyone else has done this, and results ?

You can download some videos on some TV network websites. On the TV3 website you can download videos from "Video On Demand" but you can't download videos from their "TV On Demand" channel.

Most sites use RTMPE, which is basically encrypted DRMed Flash Video streams. Downloading an RTMPE stream is an exercise in futility.

Thanks for the replies, and tip on TV3. Looks like a no-goer. Maybe there's a add-on card available for the computer with video out that could record in real time to a DVD recorder.

if you want to do that, just get a screen capture application. someone tv rips are made that way.

Yes, screen capture would be a solution, but I found there was an S-Video connector on the graphics card and I can hook that up directly to the DVD-R. Certainly good enough for YouTube etc. Now figuring out where the Nvidia X-Config file is stored, and how to change TVout to PAL. Compensates nicely for the TV having no browser capability too.

Not really it's a war of escalation between streaming sites and downloading tools the streaming sites have to change their methods frequently to avoid download workarounds

Because you're not allowed to keep it, so why let you download it? They're also contractually obliged to prevent you downloading it.

I think that BBC's iPlayer has the best approach here:

- You can stream OR download the content
- It automagically disappears after 30 days or 7 days from when you watched it, whichever occurs first
