I'm in the market for a new monitor, the most likely suspect at this stage is looking to be the Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM

http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=399109

This is _mostly_ going to be a gaming system but it will have a bit of "work" performed on it. 16:9 seems to be a more common aspect ratio these days, and at 23" it's a practical screen size to watch TV/movies on without the black bars that'd be there on a 16:10 screen, although the extra 120 pixels of a 1920x1200 versus 1920x1080 isn't necessarily a bad thing, as I'm coming from a 19", 16:10 1440x900 screen, it'll be an improvement regardless though.

Any other recommendations in the $300-$400-ish price range? (Or a bit more if the screen warrants it)

A displayport connector would be a plus but not a deal maker/breaker.

Dell outlet store - sometimes has some good deals

Dell make decent monitors, I have one for photography work.

I'm hesitant about buying mail-order monitors. I bought a Dell one years ago (2407WFP from memory), nice monitor but the card-reader unit in it was stuffed, it was such a drama to get it sorted out (send it back to Malaysia IIRC) that I didn't bother as it wasn't something I _needed_. Maybe they have a local service agent these days though?

I'll keep an eye on that outlet page though, for the right price it may be worth it.

I don't think if you buy in NZ that they can make you ship things overseas to fix.

At the time they had no NZ web presence that I was aware of, you merely bought from the regular site and they shipped it from Asia somewhere and it turned up. Given that they now have a .co.nz site I suspect they'd have to be bound by the CGA?

That's a good question, I have no idea. If you really want to know call them and ask.
