Hi,
Finally it is time for me to upgrade from my 19's that i've been living with all this time. I am looking to buy a 27 inch monitor - my main use is surfing the web and doing some gaming.
My condition for buying this monitor is a minimum of (2560x1440) resolution

so far im inclined to get the 'Dell UltraSharp U2713HM' but the Viewsonic VP2770 is also quite impressive.
I've read the thread here back in Feb which at least one member has managed to buy it for $736 from Dell on special.
I'm wondering if the market has changed since or if i can get this monitor at a similar price now.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've also got one of those Crossover monitors, bought through eBay, delivered within a week from Korea. Very very nice.

I purchased a Acheiva Simian about 11 months ago from Ebay. Crossover, Yamakazi, Acheiva all use the same LED panels which are actually the same as the 27" Apple Cinema Display screens. You can expect some defects with these however as they are the b grade screens that apple have rejected for whatever reason (apparently).
I actually got mine delivered for about $320 which was a heck of a deal, i really wish i had bought 2 as the price has gone up dramatically since then. Mine has a few dead pixels but its at the top of the screen and being that its a 1440p screen you really have to look to see a few dead pixels. Since then 2 friends have imported one each and both arrived without an issue.
Would i recommend getting one? without a doubt! However if you can get the Dell for ~$750 then it maybe a safer option.

U2713HM has been frequently on that special, and it was just a few days ago.

Consider the service and guarantee one would get, I'd say that might be a safer choice then Korean IPS panels if budget allows. If anything happens with the Korean IPS, the postage can eat a hole in one's pocket.

however, if you consider gaming, then you might want to check out a 24 inch model, unless you have a setup that can easily maintain decent fps at 2560*1440. also IPS are not known of good response time. ghosting can be an issue.

web surfing also usually doesn't utilizes that big of resolution.

I think you might be looking at the wrong monitor. a 24 inch screen with fast response time, might serve you better and costing less. my 2c.

Thank you for the replies. Now I'm definitely inclined to get the 27q.
There seems to be a fluctuation in prices though any idea of the difference with the mentioned 27q vs 27q led-p.
For the zero dead pixels did you buy the perfect pixel model?

Watch out for the cool blue 'white' tinge you can't get rid of :)

It might be the same panel.. but the colour controls can be funky

This is who I got mine off - obviously the falling dollar has affected the price.

I didn't go for the perfect pixel model - mine has one bright pixel (red) in the upper left quadrant but I only picked it up when testing for dead/bright pixels. It really is unnoticeable.

+1 for the Korean monitors. 1440p vs 1080p is a world of difference on a 27".

Got one of those and very happy with it. A liittle light bleed at the top when screen is black, but dont notice it in normal use.

Thank you for your replies. After careful consideration I bought the Korean monitor 27q from dream seller @ ebay.
The total cost with the current PayPal conversion came up to 514.36NZD.
I will let you know the condition\quality as soon as it arrives next week.

Thank you very for your advice, I am confident this is the best buy in the market.

Does that include GST and duty? Hopefully it does otherwise you are looking another $110-$120 on top of that price for the GST and duty component.

Either way it's a nice monitor and I'm enjoying mine so hopefully you will get heaps of fun out of it.
