Does anybody know if they are still alive and kicking? It seems their internet site is down, so appears they are not in business any more.

I tried it but the client had serious issues.

Use crash plan aussie now. It's fine.

Well callplus now advertise mega plans for free with their slingshot plans, so doesn't look like they are supporting it either.

Sucks for those that invested serious time backing up to it. Worse for non slingshot users who didn't have unmetered.

Don't know if anyone can help, but my laptop HD crashed last night. no biggie I thought, everything is backed up to Backflip, but to my horror it appears Backflip has disappeared. I received no notification from them they were shutting doors so to speak, so now I have lost a good part of 14 years of data.
Anyone got a lead on what has happened to them? Any help would be much appreciated.

If the backup was still running and actually working then your data must have been going somewhere so perhaps give CallPlus a call and speak to them about it.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Was backing up some important files to external HD before I signed up with Backflip, but that was at least 2 years ago. And only important work files, not everything I had on laptop.
Will dig out external HD tonight and bring it into work to check out what has been saved.

Who were you paying for the service, and were you still paying? Cloud backup should never be used for primary backups, I would rank it 3rd. 1st is a local backup inhouse, 2nd is a backup stored offsite, and 3rd is cloud backup(if you think you need it, or you can substitute it for a secondary backup). I wouldn't put much faith in small cloud backup services, because you don't know how long they will be around for. I would stick with the big names.

It was going to BACKFLIP AUCKLAND, as per my Visa statement. Was charged in Sept 2011 when I first signed up, again in Sept 2012, but nothing since.
Can you recommend a good program to automate backups to a external HD?

So you haven't been getting charged, have they therefore cancelled your account?
For automated scheduled file backups, I use a tool called karens replicator, but it is quite old now. There maybe something better.
I have tried crash plan, and it was far too slow in uploading and it never completed uploaded my drive, and would hate to think how long it would take to restore the backup again.

Another approach could be to try the Slingshot reps here on Geekzone and see if they know someone that can help
