Hey all

I currently have a M2N68-AM Plus mobo, with a AMD Athlon II x2 240 2.8GHz PSU.

My buddy Google is confusing me - according to the "official" specs, the mobo can only take up to AM2 socket PSU's, yet other sites say it can take AM3.

That's my first question - with an addendum. Is AM3+ in the same class as AM3?

So - can my mobo take AM3+ CPU's?

If it can't take AM3, is there any viable CPU upgrade available, or am I realistically going to have to replace both the mobo and the CPU? I can't afford both at present, so that will have to wait if so.

Anyway here is the CPU support this for that model

Looks like AM3+ is not supported on that board, AM3/AM2+/AM2 are supported but it depends on the on PCB version and bios version, so you need to check the PCB version printed on the motherboard (or on the label of the motherboard box) and possibly update the bios to the latest version.

You best bet would be to get a Phenom II if you can only afford to upgrade the cpu.

Sorry, yes - CPU. Been a long year...

From what I can tell from what is available in the AM2+ Phenoms, even going to one of them isn't going to give me a great deal of bang for my buck, would that be correct?
