Hi

I am still building my PC and have started to install the DVD writer and.

The motherboard manual has a small bit of guff on connecting the DVD-ROM audio-out to a CD_IN connector on the motherboard.

Is this still required? I thought these days operating systems like XP do the audio stuff for you, so you dont actually need to connect anything from the DVD writer to the CD_IN.

Can someone clarrify please?

Thanks

The cable is for playing a music CD through your soundcard/mb audio, not generally needed

My understanding was that you require the cable if you want to play Audio CD's through the PC CD-ROM.
If you are ripping to HDD first, then playing them as MP3's this cable is obselete.

I still set mine up, just incase, but havn't tried playing an audio through PC for a while, just hook the iPod up to the stereo and bobs your uncle.  (which of course was ripped on the pc to begin with so there is a copy of all music on my pc)

Does this mean that when i put a dvd in the drive, I cannot hear any sound, if I dont have the cable connected?
