Building new pc. ASrock FM2A88X-ITX+ and AMD A4-4020cpu

all spins up hard drive light flashes but no video. Removed everything except 1 stick ram and still no go. Double checked cpu and ram seated correctly. Ram is fine in another computer.

I looked on Asrock website and cpu only supported from bios P2.10 only. No way of knowing what it is shipped with. I see the A4-4000 is supported by all versions. Thinking of swapping cpu with the other computer that has the A4-4000. The bios on the other does support the A4-4020.

Havent had experience with incompatible cpu before so dont know symptons. Could this be due to unsupported cpu and worth swapping cpu's over.

okay found sticker on motherboard it does have bios version P2.10 so looks like dead motherboard.
Couldnt get one here so this came from overseas so quite a hassle. Looks like have to use one from here and then use a sata card to get 6 sata ports.

You're quite probably correct, it's kaput. That's a risk of buying from overseas, and yeah SATA cards aren't too expensive - well they're cheap at Amazon/Newegg not sure in NZ. More expensive no doubt.

I buy them of dx or aliX. Never had a dead card yet. Way way cheaper than NZ prices.

no no beeps. even tried with A4-5300 which is supported by all bios revisions and same thing. Still nothing when tried with discrete graphic card

Power off.

Go round and disconnect all cables, connectors, RAM and reconnect and push them down. Be especially careful on the SATA and power connectors (both of them).

It is very unlikely the CPU is at fault if installed correctly.

You say you have tried it with one stick of RAM.. Have you tried swapping the RAM?

Try disconnecting ALL the hard drives and see if it boots. Remove all SATA cables from the motherboard.

Have to add that its normal to feel that some major component is faulty or you have ruined something in the install.

Try to think of it the other way around. i.e. some minor connection, installation fault etc. is causing the problem - at least until proved otherwise.

I have often been in your situation. In fact, I have just had a similar problem in last couple of days.

Definitely, don't immediately believe anyone who says it must be some major, expensive component like the motherboard or CPU.

It could be a lot of things.

Have you disconnected all external devices and tried again? I once had a PC that appeared to die with the same symptoms, the culprit was a USB wifi module. The wifi module was fine, but the PC just wouldn't post with it connected.

Hi, I tried all above. Maybe I wasnt clear. Everything disconnected and just cpu and 1 stick of ram and still nothing. Pulled ram and put another stick and still nothing. Added discrete card still nothing. I have concluded must be motherboard

Is it in a case? Try setting it up on a bench outside of a case and see if it works.

well I found the problem and not what I thought would be. The power supply. System powers up just no video. Put power supply from another computer and works fine. Put this new one back on and square one, powers on but no video. I always thought if power supply powers up then must be okay but alas I was wrong

cant get one. hard enough getting 6 port in NZ here. I have a micro atx AMD with 8 sata ports but this case only takes mini itx board
