Floppy drive was in computer originally on windows 98 I have had computer upgraded twice over the years and now run Xp Pro
Now when I insert a floppy disk into the drive and try to run it I get error message Please insert disk into Drve A.can anyone give me some help here Thanx

It sounds like a dirty or defective drive.

Yeah I am getting that message too! Although my Computer is a new one and the Floppy drive was already put into the Computer, and I've been using it for course and stuff and now it is saying that it needs to be formatted!!, is there anyway that I can recover the files from the floppy disk?

Is the floppy drive powered, connected, and enabled (correctly setup) in the BIOS. I know i've disabled the FDD in almost every PC i've touched as no one hardly uses them anymore apart from the odd booting requirements.

I have fixed my problem by inserting the disk as the computer starts up and it seems to read it okay and can change disk also but if I don't do it a start up it just tells me insert disk

you haven't changed the drive path since it was installed have you? i've heard of problems with floppy drives when you don't leave them as drive A.

What's a floppy drive? Thought of using a USB flash drive instead?
