I have just installed XP Pro on a Seagate 250gb SATA HDD, and updated with SP2, yet it is still only showing as 127gb? What's up with that?
Googling it has only thrown up a couple of examples of this, but the solutions don't seem to fit my problem.

How old is the machine? Does it recognise the drive in the BIOS at all and show a size in there?

Some drives also have a jumper to limit the capacity, it might pay to check that as well.

Brand new everything - mobo, harddrive, the whole shebang. Bios shows 250gb. It's only when I click on the C drive in My Computer that it says 127gb.
Should I try Partition Magic?

If you are using XP to do the partitioning it has to be up to SP1 or 2 right from the start (ie recent build or slipstreamed) to see the full size of the disk.

thanks for the help guys - found the "missing" disk space was unallocated. So created a new partition with it, which is probably a sensible thing to do anyway.

So all sorted - cheers.

BTW - isn't a buzz (in a very geeky, nerdy, my-wife-just-doesn't-get-it kind of way) to put together your first PC from scratch and it actually works??!!
