Not sure if this is the right place, but figured since the other post about it was here, figured it'd try here.

I used to always check Ascent first for most of the IT stuff I'd buy just for their amazing extended warranty (fast shipping/service), even if the prices were a tad higher than others.

But I've noticed recently that the extended warranties have disappeared, just wondering if there are any other NZ companies that offered extended warranties online like Ascent did, or even as an add on. But most importantly, a company that will honour it.

We have the consumer guarantees act which covers you.

As they're nothing more than an insurance policy, you should be able to source one independently.

Ascent, ask them why they stopped. Also see if they suggest a provider. The provider may continue if asc is no longer marketing it.

Doubt that would be a cheap option on a single purchase. I am not sure about NZ credit card providers, but I believe some credit card providers can offer extended warranties if you pay by credit card.

Buy HP commercial PCs with a 3 year factory warranty?

HP ProBook laptops with a 12 month warranty are extendable to 3 years on site service by HP themselves for about $120. EliteBooks have that by default (from memory).

Agreed. Most business class machines (Not what you get from Harvey Normans and Noel Leemings, have 3 Year warranties by default or can be upgraded pretty cost effectively.

We try our best to steer away from Probooks for any but our most budget focused customers, because they have lower resolution screens, lesser warranties and are heavier and thicker.

Elitebooks are fantastic.

We find the ProBooks pretty good, but always bundle a 3 year warranty in our quotes. The lower resolution screens have not been raised as an issue - and can be an advantage with legacy software that doesn't scale. We find clients happier to roil them over after 3-4 years because the prices are pretty good.

Replying to Jase2985, I thought the CGA only covered us for one year (or "reasonable"), I don't know about you, but I don't often have much luck getting stuff fixed/replaced when something is over half a year out of the manufacturers warranty.

Ascent quite often had like 5 or sometimes higher years of extended warranty, when the manufacturers were 1 year, it's saved me a few times.

I've never bought the extended warranties that the likes of Harvey Normen offer as they're usually more than a few $$ and short addition years. + They're a pain to deal with.

I'll read the other replies on here tomorrow, didn't expect so much activity, just got back from a long day.

i think you need to read up a bit more on the CGA. because you sure can get things replaced long after the manufactures warranty has finished. If retailers arent willing to entertain a reasonable claim they are breaking the law.

Agree. I thought this was business warranty but that comment was not made by the OP. The link explains that asc previously offered free extended warranties. They probably deserved a Consumer award for honouring the CGA ; ).

I don't recall Consumer ever looking at this aspect of retail service.

@gzt, yeah I'm referring to ext warranties as a consumer.

@Jase2985, hey thanks, I'll have a read of those links, my MBP screen has just recently had quite a few pixels die and I take good care of the laptop, it's out of warranty by a year, so will be a good exercise to see if I can get an Apple rep to repair it (replace screen) under the CGA.

Haha can imagine.

The issue I was having with the screen fixed its self (overnight laptop off), turns out you can't leave your screen (backlight off, but LEDs on) on for days without some pixels starting to go bright. I still have 1 dead pixel, but it's kinda in an out of the way spot, and from what I've heard that's kinda hard to get fixed even when you have warranty. (though I did get an Apple rep to replace my power adaptor that stopped working for this laptop, half year out of warranty, so there's that)

I also have another issue with an iMac with sprinkles of dead pixels on each side of the screen, but really hard to see, so again, not something I see them fixing.

My phones charging cable has recently intermittingly stopped working, it's 1 year out of warranty, so will try to get it replaced under the CGA.
