What is up with the price of DDR4 memory? I was looking at upgrading my Haswell I5 to a Ryzen rig and about half the cost would be on memory. It's at least $300 for 16gb (2x8gb) of RAM.

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Pretty much demand has been out striping supply for the last couple of years. Manufacturers have been slow at increasing supply, why would they when they are making record profits.

I did read that the Chinese government is looking into a few companies around possible price fixing going on.

I bought my 16GB of DDR4 RAM March last year for $130. The same kit now cost $240 which is crazy.

I'm paying NZ$1400 for 64Gb G-Skill Trident Z 3600 for my new build. frown But what can you do?  It's not going to go down any time soon, and my 3930K system is over six years old!

That's probably how much 64 GB of DDR3 would have cost when you bought your current system.

As I understand it, a number of factories that produce it were damaged and pricing should be starting to get better from Feb 2018 onward.
