Can someone rank these in order of best to worst. They are just the latest processors i have seen in mailers.

Don't meant to sound offensive, but you should do some reading first.

A good place to start is Tom's hardware cpu charts. Some of the cpus you listed are also considered to be superseded, have a read through Wikipedia as well.

Roughly as a guess:
2.4ghz intel core 2 quad,

Its hard to tell when you've only given the clock for most, which means i have to guess which one you're talking about and when it was made.
Its hard to make a general statement when you factor in quad core etc
What are you looking at buying? A whole computer, an upgrade?

I can't rank those processors but a good place is www.hwbot.org, people upload results of benchmarks, there are thousands of results there, all the way back to 386's. I am in the market for a new laptop, so I headed over to www.notebookreview.com and I wanted to compare the fastest with the slowest. It turns out that there is about a 2:1 ratio between fastest and slowest. Using the Wprime32 benchmark (which apparently tests multicore processors to their limit). Graphing, there seems to be a 15% gain per year, so in 5 years the fastest will be the slowest.

Latest PC Authority magazine has a round up of all CPU's from the last few years with graphs etc.... perfect for your query :)

Thanks everyone. Thinking of buying a new PC. Laptop starting to give out or not meet requirements so have been looking at retailers and what they have compared to what i have now (Inspiron 1100). I'm prone to doing lots of things at once eg. surf, pla games, write excel stuff, play music so i need to find something that will cope a bit better. Also not looking top of the range and want to be able to compare the prices to the processors in them as in some cases thats the major difference.

imo get a custom build, rather than a branded one. Branded ones like dell tend to be a lot harder to upgrade etc and usually charge a fair bit more once you get above introduction prices.
If you aren't confident building one yourself, get a friend to do it, or most computer stores will do this for you for a small labour charge.
