My UFB connection is in the living room so as the WiFi router. I have been meaning to move my desktop inside my room and was wondering if should I go with WiFi or Powerline Adapters. I am no electrical engineer hence am asking for help if there is anything that I need to check that I can actually check without having to spend too much to ensure that Powerline Adapters would work? Right now, its either I buy a better wifi adapter or a powerline pair for pretty much the same price. I really prefer to use the powerline for stability.

Best way is to get a pair and try them. Check you can return them if they don't work for you. I've had good success with TP-Link ones. You would also want to make sure you secure the powerline network in an apartment setting.

Are you able to repurpose any of the existing phone wiring from the living room to the bedroom.... ?

I dont think that is possible as when they installed UFB they pulled the fiber on the conduit using the copper cable from the jackpoint to the ceiling.

Do you know of any stores that would allow this? Back when I was in the US it was easy enough to return items. But am not aware of any NZ stores that is open to this.

You open it, you own it. Its effectively USED once its been taken out of box .
If you were buying , would you want open box goods, that had been used, or something still sealed :-)

With powerline LAN its pretty much try it & see . Ive only had 2 instances of it not working, both internal wiring issues .
It usually works really well.

If you are careful with the packaging, most stores will take it back if it doesn't work.
