Hi all

I am building a new computer and will have two monitors. The main one will run off displayport. My older monitor is a Dell 3007WFP-HC, which is a great monitor I want to keep using. It's native resolution is 2560x1600 @60Hz. It only has dual link DVI input. The card I will be getting (RTX 2070) will not have DVI so I need some sort of adapter. I already have a HDMI to DVI cable which is single link, so I can only run the monitor using this at either 1280x800 @60Hz or 2560x1600 @30Hz (and the latter looks terrible as if it's interleaved).

My main issue is most the cables advertised for sale will state that they support resolutions up to 1080p or 1440p, for example this one:

There are some active connectors that are advertised as going up to 2560x1600 but they are very expensive (~$200).

Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

Just pm'ed you but honestly if you are fairly sure the cable works for my purpose can equally just get it myself. If you're close enough to where I live I'll get it off you.

I still can't drive the display properly beyond 1280x800 which comes up as the native resolution. It might be possible that the cable is single link DVI. I'll wait for my new gfx card and rig and try again.

By the way I got a reply to my query from dynamix about their cable:

"DP-DVI(24+1) : support 60hz/1080P only. Because DP have 20pin connecting to DVI(24+1)….some pin do not connecting it. From out view seems DVI have 24 pin of dual function, but actually no. If DVI(24+1) to DVI(24+1) full pin then can support 2560*1600 @60hz."

So some of the DVI pins are not connected. I might still get this cable as having a secondary monitor at 1920x1080 is not bad.

Will report back with successes or failures. Cheers

OK, but I'm sure that is a DVI-D cable (http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/1862113.pdf) )on cable is written e342987 awm style 20276 vw-1 dvi cable)

Dear all

I decided in the end to buy one of only two 2070 cards I found that still have a DVI port - specifically the Asus RTX 2070 Dual OC. This works well and has the same boost clock as another card I was looking at, all I am doing is sacrificing the usb-c port.

So my old monitor is running as secondary at native res of 2560x1600 via DVI which is what I wanted, and my new monitor is connected up by displayport.

After lots of investigation online it is apparent that not all "dual link" displayport to DVI cables are actually able to carry signals greater than 1920x1080. Some might go higher but very few if any go to 2560x1600. Sometimes the exact same cable on amazon has varying reviews, and I wonder if newer cables are higher specced. To get 2560x1600 an active adapter is probably needed, which costs somewhere around $150 to $200 and isn't worth it to me. I plan to retire my secondary monitor when I next upgrade my graphics card, whenever that may be.

Hopefully this experience will be helpful to others who have mid-2000s high res monitors with only DVI inputs.
