Hi there
Running vista ultimate x64 w 4gb ram on a dell E521 (athlon 64 4200+).
My first hard drive is a 320Gb hard drive.

Just physically installed a wd6400aaks hard drive - cables and all are connected. Bios seems ok. (not raid).

Hard disk was detected by vista and partitioned into 100g 300g and 180g. i have part of my page file on the 100g partition (the first partition).

but the data transfer rate is only 5MBps - i expected something like 60-90 MBps!

Any ideas?
Will keep on searching for resolutions meanwhile. THanks for any directions!!

ok i really need to take this back!!! transferring large files achieving 240Mbps!!! i guess i have nothing to worry about. i have really no idea what happened back then .... maybe vista was busy with something :)

seems that everytime you do ANYTHING eg surf net/play mp3 vista is too dumb to handle data transfer and drops right down to 5MBps! would that be consistent?

If your using it as your OS drive at the same time the transfer rate will drop yes, I wouldnt expect that much though. 4Gigs of ram should avoid you using swap and therefore burning IO cycles but just check anyway that there is plenty of free memory at the time (maybe lots of programs open?)
