I've recently started using EaseUs ToDo Backup, which has been running perfectly for a few days now.  The program does a backup of various Folders & Files off my desktop at a set time daily to an external drive.

Recently I was sitting alongside the computer as the backup routine started, and I noticed that my NAS drive started up and started 'clicking' similar to the Read/Write sound.

I do not have my NAS drives selected for backing up by this program, so was wondering why this may be happening.

you havent asked it to back up a folder from your NAS to the external drive too?

are any of the your files on your desktop mapped to the NAS that are included in the backup?

Definitely no NAS Folder/File included in the backup plan

Not that I can see, and in any case I don't have any Mapped drives. The NAS just holds music, and videos/movies.

At first I thought maybe the program is using the NAS as a temporary repository for the backup files before sending them to the external drive?  I'll run a test before next scheduled backup by turning off the NAS.

To the USB port on the router .... shows up under Network as a separate device/drive.

UPDATE:  Disconnected NAS for this evenings scheduled backup.

Backup started and proceeded as usual, but did it a lot quicker.  Checked backed up file and it is about same size as all the other ones (differential).

Still not sure why the NAS is being 'scanned' when it is not selected for backups.

I guess the next experiment is to add a file to the NAS and then see if it turns up in the next backup?
