Hi All

Ok I am trying to set this up and I can't seem to get any output to the monitor, and yes i have tried a different vga cable,

I am trying to work out what is actually wrong.

so what I have done is (all without a hardrive in it)

1) turn it on without ram in it, it beeps, fans turn on and after about 2 mins the CPU fan starts cranking up sounding like its about to get airborne

2) turn it on with Ram in it, fans turn on and after about 2 mins the CPU fan starts cranking up sounding like its about to get airborne

3) turn it on and the display came up but didn't respond to the usb keyboard, rebooted and it didn't come up again

I am also a bit stuck as I can't get the structural bar out of the way so I can check on the CPU, I cannot figure it out, it is actually a little humbling

Just is there something patently obvious i should be doing or am missing

I don't particularly want to spend much money on it as it is an older machine, but if i get it going and depending on the chip in it it might be useful as a replacement for my daughters computer, provided it can run minecraft, roblox and possibly brawlhalla.

Otherwise I had thought it might be good to use a test machine for a hackintosh or a little computer in the shed

Whoops, and to forestall the obvious question I forgot to address, I don't know if it did work before being given to me, that might be the entire reason i ended up with it

Have you tried other RAM?

Are there any other monitor outputs like HDMI or DisplayPort on it that you can try?
I have seen some HP systems that will default to the HDMI or DisplayPort as the primary output, rather than VGA which would only work with a 2nd monitor.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

There's actually a pretty thorough service manual for the HP8300. I quite like those USDTs

I thought that might be the case, but it seems remarkably clean amongst the fins

Haven't tried other RAM yet

Don't currently have a compatible cable to test the display port, I know i put it somewhere safe, I'll have a proper hunt in the weekend
