Hi.. I'm looking for some good transcoding software (free) to convert .flv (flash) video files and other files so I can play them on my Samsung TV. The TV will support Xvid, Mpeg2, H.264HP, Mpeg4-ASP and audio codecs AC3, Mpeg1, ADPCM, AAC LC.

I've been trying Mediacoder, but it seems buggy and crashes/freezes often when trying to convert flv files to other codecs. Another one I tried called Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro 2 works well, but costs and only converts .flv files from what I can tell.

Unfortunately I can't use any DLNA software other than Samsungs, due to their poor implementation on their tv sets. :(

just read a bit deeper into it and make sure you dont install the toolbar as poss adware/spyware. read the comments and make your own decision.

Go to program files, then eRight then there should be a folder for you called "Output"

:-)

Have a go at various bit rates for the video to get the best results for you.

Worked first time using H.264.. a bit slow encoding though.

Whats best out of H.264 and xVid do you think?

In hindsight (and I was warned) I would have gone for the series 6 without DLNA and saved some $$'s.

I use replay AV, mainly for scheduling/capturing and converting internet radio from quicktiem to MP3, but replay converter also does video conversion

Best free software Ive come across is this one;

I use the free version, it does have a nag after encoding files but it does a fine (& fast) conversion.

What about either ATI's Avivo Converter or nVidia's PureVideo? Depending on your vid card.

I use Badaboom, it's a nVidia video card only cuda app

I have an nVidia GTX 260 with 192 sps and I get around 80-90 fps 720p transcodes. It supports a wide range file formats and will output compatible format for your TV.

If you have a 8800 or above nVidia card definitely check it out.

It is nearly twice the transcode speed of my core 2 quad @ 2.66ghz

If you're looking for transcode speed and you have the video card it's a great app.

The 2 main drawbacks are

1) No subtitle support for baking in subtitles
2) No batch processing

I have owned it since version 1 and they have released regular updates significantly improving functionality. nVidia used it to showcase the Ion platform so I think it has a bright (i.e. supported) future.

hmm ... can't you just rename the flv extension to mp4? (my understanding is that they're the same format and this actually works on my ps3)
