Hi all,

Im hoping to to buy a new hard disk for my Windows Media Center PC. As it was purchased about a good 3 -4 years ago, it currently uses IDE Hard disk. While shopping online however, im noticing that SATA is the new standard and therefore more easily available than IDE HDD. Question is, is there a converter of some sort that would allow me to use a SATA HDD or am i to just look harder for some online retailers which sell IDE Hard disks?

Any recommendations on retailers would be great too.

Cheers,
Jeremy

SATA still uses the IDE technology, but with different connectors/controllers.
What most people refer to as IDE, should really be referred to as PATA.

/end worthless obtuse lesson

Do you have SATA sockets on your mobo? Even 4 years ago should be in the zone for SATA onboard.
SATA expansion cards are dirt cheap anyway.

Get a SATA II expansion card, and a nice shiny new SATA drive or 4, and RAID them up for some redundancy or extra storage :)
