We took a video of my band playing live on a sony handycam and downloaded the files onto my computer and burnt a DVD which is all good.

The files that downloaded are about 1.9gig each (there are 3 of them). I've downloaded a program that can edit the files so they are individual tracks and I can save them as MP3 or leave them as MPEG.

I've edited & saved the tracks / songs I want, however, the files are about 180 - 280MB each. I would like to e-mail some of them to some people.

Does anyone know how I can make the file size smaller?

any help will be appreciated!

For quick and dirty lowering of file size, Windows Movie Maker does a fabulous job. You tell it what size file your want, and it will make it smaller to fit.

(If WMM supports your file type).

thanks for that - it works ok in reducing the file size, but unfortunately it also greatly reduces the sound and picture quality.

That is the downside of compressing and video or audio file. To make the file sdmaller you have to sacrifice quality.

Remember that trying to email any file larger than 10MB will cause you grief, (filling up hotmail accounts, delays in sending)

You are better off going to a free file hosting website and updoading it there, then send a link to the people you want to view it.

www.sendspace.com allows a filesize of up to 300MB

thanks for that - I have now found out that I copied the files onto the computer in the wrong way....
I connected the camera up and inserted a blank DVD in the computer and burnt the files from the camera to the DVD - then copied them to the computer.
according to a 'techie' I spoke to, he said I should have copied the files on to the computer first - then did the DVD, that way the files on the computer would be much smaller....

we will probably do another Video soon anyway, so I will do it properly this time!
