Hi

I'm wanting to convert my old LP's & cassettes to digital format and wondered if anyone could recommend free software to do a good job of this.

I'm assuming you have all the correct equipment to connect it to your Pc

Have all the equipment. thanks for your suggestion. Does audacity have the ability to remove crackle and hiss from records & tapes?

The main thing is the phono preamp you use.

There are some turntables out there with one built in but you have no idea if the have the RIAA equalization curve right. Most seem to be a bit weak with how much bass they restore. No idea if that is intentional since the cheap ones have massive microphonic properties or if its just a result of cost cutting in the circuit design.

Thx 4 your feedback.
I have had some success already. Using an old JVC amp and turntable and plugging in stereo cord to headphones outlet on amp and running it into mic socket on HP DV7 laptop. Am using Audacity to record and seems to be doing alright with good sound, although a bit 'crackly' even after I've run the click removal routine over it.
Am now researching best vinyl record cleaning technique to get rid of all the extra 'noise' that i can before recording then running cleaning filters.
