Hey guys, Ive just been building this computer with second hand part, Which i have owned since new.

Its an albertron mobo with Celeron D 3.06Ghz. And I have a working PSU, But it just wont power up at all. I have all cables in correct places, and there is no noise or lights AT ALL.

Just wondering if its an easy fix?

3.06ghz Celeron(gonna overclock to 3.8ish)

1gb ddr 400

30gb hard drive(upgrading(

Computer made from parts i have lying around.

what model is the motherboard? is there an LED on the motherboard? if that's not green then it's either your power supply or motherboard gone bung, if it is green but doesn't power on check all the ram, cards are seating and make sure the power switch jumpers are correct

do you get power even for a second? say a fan makes a small spin and dies? This would possibly indicate a part grounding, maybe a jumper in the wrong place

Any other movement or anything?
Try removing all cards and ram, leave CPU in, see if it makes some beep to indicate no ram, if not, PSU or motherboard are fried/not working

ok from what you've said i believe the mobo is buggered.

I thought it may be the PSU, but i bought a new one, and it still wouldnt work.

And no, there is absolutly no beeps, no lights, and no fan spins for even a second.

Is there any way to test the MOBO? I will admit, i didnt store very well, and didnt handle with much care..(like i touched it with bare hands)

For future reference I will probably recommend to check every components first then head to the shop.
I had the same problem the other day so i disconnected everything and use the paperclip trick to test psu and was fine it seemed that me swaping components inside i knocked a cable so all work fine  now.

good luck

If motherboard appears that is not working at all (no power evident). two ways to check firstly if mobo have a led that goes on when turn on then easy, if not I will test the PSU with paper clip trick to ensure is not that the problem (ensure all PSU cables are disconnected from mobo and other hardware before testing PSU). reconnect all cables and check all other cables are connected ok. try again if does not power then unplug PSU power cable and press pc case power button and hold for a minute. now reconnect cable to psu and try again if no luck then motherboard somehow is not triggering the voltage for starting the psu. connect broadband cable to back pc and see if any lights evident when psu switch on, try disconnecting everything but ram and cpu and graphics.  but do a few tests it pays off to take your time and be safe.

If PSU is good MB should be receiving some power but up to mobo to trigger the start of PSU!.

good luck, Let us know you results

Could you please send more details about what happened... when you press power switch it starts then shuts down.. do you meant when press power switch it starts fans then switches off instantly if yes them mobo ok. they could be two things i personally encounter with this issue. could be little switch you press to power thing which can be cheaply replaced or may be likely to be a component cable or a molex plug not quite fitting properly or could be very likely the (hdled swpower etc pc case cables to the mobo) it pays off to write down name and place of each cable if no manual then unplug them and place them back again. i hope this helps,

Good luck,

Andy

Is the case a new case? Kind of sounds like a faulty power button from your last post.

I'll put it down in more detail.

No its not a new case. When I press power, the heatsink fan starts, then instantly stops. But if i hold the button down it will stay on. Havnt had hooked up to a screen so dunno if it displays or not. That is what ill test next.

Also its not the switch, because i used another switch that i no works and it done exactly the same thing.
