I work for a large organisation that is a big Microsoft customer and I have MS Office Enterprise 2007 on my private/home laptop that was sold to me at a discount under the MS Home User Program because I am staff member at this organisation. It was a 'staff perk'.

I am now selling the laptop with Office installed on it. I have the Office DVD but it says 'not for resale or OEM distribution' so I am not sure where I stand regarding passing on the DVD with the laptop. Any thoughts?

You will need to uninstall office from your laptop. Enterprise version of office is only meant to be used by staff members who still work at that company.

Do whatever you want to do man.

My wife was offered what seems like a similar deal. The contract she would have had to sign clearly stated that it was for use by employees only (had to stop using it when employment ceased) and could not be sold or distributed.

Not sure if you had a similar contract to sign but would think the 'deal' would be similar.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

We have the same, if a staff member who has taken the offer leaves, they have to remove the software and return any media. Its licensed to the company, not the individual.

Fair call - thanks guys. I will remove Office from the old laptop prior to sale. I don't want to fall foul of the HUP arrangement because I value it. I recently bought a new laptop and got MS Office 2010 Professional Plus for $10 under the HUP. Brilliant arrangement.

@ billgates. I have tried googling for this but the MS HUP site is down until Tuesday our time and can't find any other site that answers this. Do you know whether the HUP arrangement covers ONLY the employee of the member organisation? i.e. would I be able to arrange for Office to be on my wife's computer under my employer's HUP arrangement?

PERSONAL AND NON-COMMERCIAL USE LIMITATION.

Unless otherwise specified, the Services are for your personal and non-commercial use. You may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, publish, license, create derivative works from, transfer, or sell any information, software, products or services obtained from the Services.

So as per the wording above, answer would be No. It's only meant to be be used by you on your work/personal laptop.

Do whatever you want to do man.
