I brought my daughter some dvd+RW discs from dse becuase she wants to put lots of mp3 files on to play in her stereo. We tried to copy the list of music from media player 9 but the option to use the larger storage of the dvd isnt available. Hi matt was the only option but no good for her stereo to read.

I have only ever used cdr so bit new to having a dvd+rw drive.

Do we need some different software to use the dvd's larger storage capacity or is it just for burning dvd movie files? When we looked at the drive properties with the blank disc in it shows 0 used space and 0 available space. I thought that the drivers for the dvd writer would cover this??

Any help much appreciated

i doubt your stereo would be able to read mp3s off a dvd, they need to be on a cd and usually not in mp3 format.

Most stereos will only play music from a CDR, and it must be in Audio CD format, not MP3.

There are some that will play MP3, but this will be clearly marked on the appliance.

You can only record Audio CD with specific programs. IIRC Windows Media Player for doesn't record Audio CD.

Thanks for the help her stereo will certainly play burned cdr's we were just hoping to get more on the disc but i guess this isnt possible.
I remeber having a cd once with lots of tracks on it and the stereo stopped at 20 odd when reading them however it would play more tracks.

So the next question is how do you write data files to te dvd rw if the drive shows 0 used and 0 remaining?? Does it need formatrtting first in some way?
Cheers

Try making a data DVD/CD using the MP3s with Nero(if you have it). This method works for most car stereos but im not sure about home stereos/CD players if it has "MP3" written on it somewhere then it may work but it might only work with data CDs. Still you can fit about 150 - 170 3 - 5mb MP3s on a CD depending on file sizes.

Maybe try using a re writable disc to see if your stereo will accept DVD discs but i dont think it will somehow.. if you have some CDRs then i would try them first .
