Hey, I'm new to the whole 'build your own pc' sorta thing and would just like some advice on certain things. I'm reasonably 'techie' and have fiddled around with computers for quite a few years, but I've just never stepped this far. This is my current idea of what I want... (not including screen, Win7 or HD)

Processor: Intel i5 760 2.80GHz 8M LGA1156
Mobo:       MSI P55A-G55
Gra Card: Sapphire HD5770 1GB GDDR5 PCIE
RAM:         4GB A-Data DDR3-1333 Dual Memory Kit
PSU:         Aerocool 500W ATX 12V2.3 Power Supply
Case:        Enermax Phoenix Neo Mid Tower Case

I've had a bad experience or two with RAM and just want to make sure the RAM is compatable with the other hardware. I also want to check that you guys think that everything will physically fit inside the case. I've looked up the Gra Card length and max room in case, and it seems to fit... just, but I also asked my cousin (who has the same gra card) and he said it was 6cm shorter than what I looked up...

Advice/help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

how much is it costing you for this?
What are you really wanting the pc for?
Never skimp on buying a cheap power supply.

If I know what you are spending I can suggest some alternative options if there is something better for the money.

Also, do you need an optical drive?

its 1.3k atm, I don't particularly want to go much higher...
I've recently bought a netbook to use at school/uni and have a 1.5year old laptop which I use to do more intensive tasks and play games. I'd like the desktop to be able to play new games reasonably well, and run apps like Photoshop and Dreamweaver well (although most computers can do that)
Optical, I have a DVD burner from a desktop that I have been given (its about 5 years old)

This is all from Computerlounge just as a comparison. If you post in their forums they can often do you a better deal for a whole pc

Seasonic S12 520w psu
Aerocool Vx-E Performance Gaming Case (sorry they don't do enermax so picked something similar-ish)
Asus P8P67-M (matx motherboard)
Intel i5 2400
4gb Kingston memory
Asus HD6870

the i5 2400 can't be overclocked like the i5 760 can, but if you were going to overclock you should be getting an aftermarket cooler. But the i5 2400 would be vastly superior at stock clocks.

Also, the HD6870 would be much better than the HD5770 which is getting a bit long in the tooth

Straight price off the website is $1322.22.

That sounds good, but the price I said also included a screen and hd... so thats another ~300 onto it
But I will definatly get a more expensive psu
And i also want the experience of building the system myself

Well it is an older series card, no direct x 11 support, the hd 6 series cards do run much better than the predecessors.

You said build above didn't include screen and hdd? Well if the 1.3k includes those 2 then it does change the outlook a bit.

what size screen and hdd were you looking at in that 1.3k?

I've changed the build a tad, I've chosen the gra card and psu you suggested and kept everything else the same, thats upped me to just over 1.5k which I'm happy with.

I accidentaly order the mobo and cpu (i was calculating how much itd cost me all up) and i accidentally clicked confirm

but that's all good I'm happy with those choices.

Thanks for all your help though :) good to clear some things up

were you ordering through computerlounge? because they would probably still give you a discount if you are ordering all parts from them (or most). they are generally pretty good. Also, the motherboard/cpu/ram can be ordered as a bundle, so you can always call them and they may be able to alter it so it all goes through as one transaction.

If i just had that little bit more money, I wouldve too... I've shelled out 6k for a trip to vietnam later on in the year so I'm a bit strapped
